For the third consecutive year, Hong Kong’s top comic creators will bring their creative talents to Comic Fiesta 2024, Malaysia’s largest comic exhibition. A total of 17 creators were selected by the 3rd Hong Kong Comics Support Programme (HKCSP), an initiative by the Hong Kong Comics and Animation Federation (HKCAF) with backing from the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA). These artists will exhibit their works at the Hong Kong Pavilion, located at Hall 2, Booth B001-B016, during the event, which takes place from December 21-22 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Since its inception in 2021, HKCSP has provided financial and promotional support to help Hong Kong comic creators share their works with international audiences. This year, the programme saw an increase in applicants, with 85 submissions resulting in 17 chosen talents, up from last year’s 15. These creators will not only showcase their work but also engage with fans, hold drawing demonstrations, and present their latest projects at Comic Fiesta 2024.
The line-up features notable names such as Ho Chi Man, Wong Shui Pan, and award-winning talents like So Chun Man (Pen So), winner of the HKCSP Gold Award and Best Comic Story Award, and Cheng Siu Hin (HIN), recipient of the Silver Award. The diverse group also features Chris Chow, Lau Kit Fai, Stephen Lau, and Candy Leung, along with other prominent comic creators like Kok Wing Leung, Leung Hing Wai, and Ngai Kam Shing. These talented individuals will showcase their unique works at Comic Fiesta 2024.
The Hong Kong Pavilion has become a prominent feature at Comic Fiesta, allowing creators to reach the Southeast Asian market. Many works from the Pavilion have gained popularity in Malaysia, with some even being translated into Bahasa Malaysia to cater to local readers.
An opening ceremony for the Hong Kong Pavilion will be held on December 21 at 10:30 AM, officiated by Libera Cheng, Director-General of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Jakarta. Distinguished guests including Alan Wan, Vice President of HKCAF, Hoh Jee Eng, Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council in Malaysia, and Lau Shaw Ming, Chairman of the Comicker Union of Malaysia, will also be in attendance.
