Hololive Production has officially announced the graduation of Gawr Gura, their most subscribed English talent with approximately 4.5 million subscribers. Gura will be graduating from the company on May 1st, 2025 (JST).
Gura, who has been a cornerstone of Hololive English since her debut with the -Myth- generation five years ago, revealed her decision during a recent stream titled “important announcement.” During the broadcast, she cited disagreements with management and concerns about the company’s direction as the primary reasons for her departure.
The shark-themed VTuber quickly became Hololive’s most popular performer after the company expanded into the English-speaking marke. Despite her inconsistent streaming schedule, Gura has remained the face of the company, representing Hololive in major collaborations and even performing at Dodger Stadium.
In their official statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Hololive expressed gratitude for Gura’s contributions: “Since her debut as a member of hololive English -Myth- five years ago, Gura has touched the hearts of fans around the world, become a beloved face for VTubing in its early stages, and played an instrumental role in the growth of hololive production.”

For those unfamiliar with VTubing terminology, “graduation” refers to a talent’s retirement or departure from their agency, a term borrowed from Japanese idol culture. Gura’s announcement follows a concerning trend of departures from Hololive English, with Amelia Watson, Ceres Fauna, and Nanashi Mumei all leaving within the past year. This exodus of English talent has raised questions about internal issues at the company. Gura will formally cease all activities under the Gawr Gura persona on May 1, ending an era for both Hololive and the broader VTubing community.
