A fan named Kay Yu has had the weekend of their life- after releasing their fangame, Holocure: Save The Fans, they then proceeded to have it played by the very same Vtubers.
HoloCure launched its own demo last Friday, and features Vampire Survivor-style gameplay, except with characters replaced by Vtubers from Hololive productions.
Here’s the description of the game, courtesy of Kay Yu:
This is a completely free, unofficial fangame featuring the vtuber talents of Hololive, with gameplay that is heavily inspired by Vampire Survivors and Magic Survival. Collect powerful weapons and items and experiment with all kinds of builds to create the ultimate character! Will you be able to defeat the endless waves of enemies, and reach the top rankings?
While it was always going to be a given that fans take interest in the game, they didn’t account for one more audience- the Vtubers themselves.
Over the weekend, a variety of Hololive talents had announced they would be checking out the game, including Hololive JP’s Usada Pekora to Hololive EN’s Nanashi Mumei and Inugami Korone from Hololive Gamers.
The popularity of the game thusly surged over the weekend, leading Kay Yu to have to disable the game’s leaderboard:
“Due to the INCREDIBLE amount of people playing, the scores data load has become too much for what we’ve are able to keep up with and we have to restructure it in a future update I hope you all understand and continue to enjoy the game!“, they said in a Tweet.
The current build of the game has a roster that spans HoloMyth and HoloCouncil from Hololive EN, though a silhouette teaser has shown that Hololive Gamers is on the way via a future update too.
New characters are unlocked by an in-game gacha system that doesn’t use real money, instead using the game’s Coins.
