The Scourge of Elwynn enters the nexus with Hogger’s appearance in the Heroes of the Storm roster. The character is available to play starting today.
The character appeared as an early boss for fledgling adventurers in World of Warcraft. In the Nexus, he plays as a close-quarters brawler, trapping enemy heroes in corridors and topping off his own health to keep up the pressure. Blizzard has since released a detailed explanation of the character on their blog.
One of the most important traits Hogger has is his area-of-effect auto attacks, which is great for dealing with crowds. He also has EZ Dynamite, which he can use to slow incoming enemies to better set them up for big damage.
He has his own resource meter, Rage, When he has rage his abilities have lower cooldowns. This works well with his Loot Hoard ability, which generates more rage while he’s in proximity of the Loot Hoard. This can be used to block exits, or just as a way to keep his cooldowns low.
His Heroic Abilities are Hoardapult and Shockwave, which tech into what kind of playstyle players would want for Hogger. With Hoardapult he can throw a second Loot Hoard, flying through crowds and healing when in proximity to it. Similar to the first Loot Hoard it is impassable terrain, and can stack with the first one to create narrow pathways.
Shockwave, on the other hand is more straightforward, doing big damage and stunning enemies caught in the blast. This works better for those players who’d rather just do big damage with Hogger rather than worry about controlling enemy movement.
Hogger is the newest character to join the roster for Heroes of the Storm, the crossover MOBA featuring characters from all of Blizzard’s IPs such as Diablo, World of Warcraft and Overwatch.
