The Higurashi Horror franchise about young girls being driven to insanity and brutally murdering each other is having a surprise collab with the cute yet sad romantic drama visual novel Clannad. It’s certainly an odd crossover.
This will take place within Higurashi No Naku No Koro Ni Mei. A gacha game based on popular visuals novels developed by D-Techno. At this point, we don’t know a lot about what the crossover will entail but there has been a trailer released featuring characters from each franchise. As a gacha game, chances are you’ll be able to draw the Clannad character to use in gameplay.
Needless to say, this will probably gear away from the more graphic side of Higurashi. It should be noted that the two series do have a connection. The voice actress for Higurashi Heroine Rena Ryugu, Mai Nakahara is also the voice of Clannad heroine Nagisa Furukawa.
The collaboration will begin on August 13th. Higurashi No Naku No Koro Ni Mei is currently only available in Japan for IOS and Android. You can download it here.
The original Higurashi visual novels by Ryukishi07 are available internationally for PC. They were later adapted into an acclaimed anime series by Studio Deen. There have also been two more recent anime new series: Higurashi Gō and Higurashi Sotsu which act as a sequel to original visual novels/anime series. The latter of which is currently airing.
The original Clannad visual novel by Key is available internationally for PC and Nintendo Switch. It also has been adapted into an acclaimed anime series by Kyoto Animation (it will make you cry).
Here is our first impression of Higurashi Mei.
