We’re back at it again with another card preview for Magic: The Gathering (MTG) and this time, we have not one but two exciting cards from the upcoming set Foundations: High-Society Hunter and a reprint of Micromancer!
Let’s start with High-Society Hunter, a powerful 5/3 Vampire Noble that costs 3BB. This flying creature comes with two potent abilities that create interesting synergies. When attacking, you can choose to sacrifice another creature to bolster the Hunter with a +1/+1 counter, making it an even more formidable threat.
But that’s not all – whenever another nontoken creature dies, you get to draw a card. This means you’re getting value not just from your own sacrifices, but from any creature that hits the graveyard! While it might see limited play in Standard, High-Society Hunter seems particularly well-suited for Commander, where it could shine in aristocrat or sacrifice-themed decks as both a sacrifice outlet and card draw engine.
Also returning to Standard is Micromancer, a 3/3 Human Wizard for 3U. This efficient creature comes with a valuable enters-the-battlefield ability that lets you tutor for an instant or sorcery card with mana value 1 from your library. The ability to search for specific low-cost spells makes Micromancer a versatile tool for decks looking to access key pieces of interaction or combo elements.
Both cards will be available in the latest MTG set Foundations when it releases on November 15, 2024. As part of this entry-level Standard-legal set, these cards should provide both new and experienced players with interesting deck building opportunities. Our thanks to Wizards of the Coast for allowing us to preview this card ahead of the set’s release.
