Legendary game designer Hideo Kojima has shared new details about the development status of Physint, his upcoming PlayStation-exclusive stealth action game. In a New Year’s message posted on Twitter, Kojima revealed that the SAG-AFTRA video game strike has impacted the game’s casting process, leading to delays in production.
Thank you for all your support in 2024. It was a year full of many things: DS2 development, the release of our second trailer, ADR for the actors, music production and recording, Japanese voice recording. In the summer, we started to play and build up the game. We were also able… pic.twitter.com/rozzqtCsPH

Physint, which was first unveiled during PlayStation’s State of Play in January 2024, represents Kojima’s return to the stealth action genre that he helped pioneer with the Metal Gear series. The game is currently in pre-production, with full development scheduled to begin after the completion of Death Stranding 2 in 2025.
The announcement has generated significant excitement among fans of the stealth genre, as Kojima aims to create what he describes as a “next-gen action espionage game.” The project was partially inspired by a personal health scare Kojima experienced in 2020, combined with persistent fan requests for him to return to the stealth genre.
Kojima Productions has had a busy 2024, managing multiple projects including Death Stranding 2, the Xbox-exclusive horror game OD, and various other initiatives. The SAG-AFTRA strike has affected not only Physint but also OD, where actor scanning and filming activities were suspended during the latter half of the year.
While specific details about Physint remain limited, Kojima has expressed his intention to leverage cutting-edge technology and talent for the project. Given its early development stage and timing, some industry observers speculate that the game might be developed for Sony’s next-generation console rather than the PlayStation 5. The game’s development is expected to resume its planned course in 2025, following the completion and release of ‘Death Stranding 2.’
