According to a redditor, Hideo Kojima – by extension, Kojima Productions – and Konami are supposedly collaborating to create a new Silent Hill. P.T., the playable teaser for the alleged new Silent Hill game, released 12 August 2014 to much acclaim. Horror game fans back then would have been eagerly awaiting to see what Kojima could do. Unfortunately, instead of seeing one of the biggest horror game releases for the decade, Silent Hill went dormant instead. Konami cancelled the game, Kojima departed from the company, and that was the end of it.
Kojima’s split from Konami wasn’t pretty, so fans would’ve understandably given up hope for the man to ever work on Silent Hill. However, this rumour claims Kojima and Konami are now in talks to create such a game. Redditor Sarkzt0001 seemed to have provided enough evidence to the Silent Hill subreddit’s moderator MarcellusDrum to substantiate the claims. The mod does note that it would be nigh impossible to corroborate the claims 100%, and advises people to be cautious.
Kojima and Konami have apparently been in talks regarding the Silent Hill game since completing work on Death Stranding. The deal is said to be “settled”, with Konami lending the Silent Hill IP to Kojima Productions. Kojima Productions and an undetermined third party is said to be funding development. Konami will have a say in who the main actor will be, but otherwise, creative control is in Kojima Productions’ hands. Norman Reedus will not be involved in the project for whatever reasons, but you can expect a high profile cast similarly to Death Stranding.
This collaboration between Kojima Productions and Konami is what led to Ken-Ichiro Imaizumi leaving the studio. Imaizumi is said to be against the collaboration, stating he didn’t want to work with Konami again. Kojima, for his part, reportedly wants to finish his vision of Silent Hill, to what he feels his fans deserve.
Once again, this “leak” should be taken with massive grains of salt due to being unable to be confirmed. Konami allowed its rights to the Silent Hill website domain expire, so there’s even more room to doubt the legitimacy of the claim, despite whatever evidence the poster provided to the Silent Hill subreddit moderators. On the off chance it is true, Kojima did hint that the next Kojima Productions game would be a horror game. This could be either an original IP, or as fans might hope, his version of Silent Hill.
The leaker claims an announcement would be made in 2020, or, “if we’re lucky”, we’ll know about it at The Game Awards 2019.
