Hideki Kamiya, founding member of game studio PlatinumGames, is leaving the company after almost 20 years with the company.
In a Twitter post today, the official PlatinumGames account thanked him for his service, explaining that he would be officially leaving on October 12th.
“We are truly grateful for his creative ideas, leadership and contribution to the growth of PlatinumGames from our start-up to this very day”, the statement reads.
“We believe that he will continue to succeed in his future endeavors as a game creator. We are looking forward to seeing the game industry grow into a better place with him in it. We wish him all the best in the future!”.
Kamiya also took to his own Twitter to reassure fans that while he may be leaving PlatinumGames, he still intends to keep making games.
“As announced on the official PlatinumGames X account, I will be leaving PlatinumGames on October 12, 2023. This came after a lot of consideration based on my own beliefs. and was by no means an easy decision to make”, he says.
“However, I feel this outcome is for the best. I will continue to create in my Hideki Kamiya way. I hope you’ll keep your eyes peeled.“
Kamiya has been by-and-large considered the face of PlatinumGames, having been involved in the development of various titles like the Bayonetta series, as well as smaller-scale entries like Sol Cresta.
He’s also known for his antagonistic attitude on social media, with his habit of blocking English speakers who don’t read his profile rules becoming the stuff of legend.
