From the studio behind the ever popular Genshin Impact – miHoYo or HoYoverse, comes their newly announced Zenless Zone Zero or “ZZZ” for short, and with the Tuning Test for the game happening today on the 5th August 2022, here’s the information that we can gather about the gameplay.
Gameplay Trailer
Just about a month ago, Zenless Zone Zero’s official YouTube channel had released a short 1 minute trailer video about the overview of the combat gameplay for ZZZ. While not much information was shown in the trailer, we were able to see a brief look at how the combat is more similar to miHoYo’s other well established game – Honkai Impact 3rd rather than Genshin Impact.
For instance, the combat in ZZZ is a lot more fast paced compared to Genshin Impact and they also kept in the mechanic from both Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact where you’re able to swap in with your team members, mid combo
The trailer also showed us some of the few playable characters in the game where each of the characters having their own signature weapons to swords, dual blades, katana, and even mechanical legs.
Tuning Test Gameplay
While we were personally not part of the close beta test, we were able to find information on the gameplay from Youtuber KyoStinV since they had stream the game.
Based on the gameplay, each characters in the game have their basic attack, a dash, a special attack that can be charged up as well as an ultimate. One of the most prominent combat mechanics in Zenless Zone Zero is its Stagger and Combo Attack.
This combo attack is the same mechanic that was shown briefly in the gameplay trailer. Apparently, to trigger this combo attack where you can call in an attack from your party member is done through a stunning mechanic called “Stagger” which can be triggered by continuously attacking an enemy. Once an enemy is staggered, players can use a heavy attack which will prompt the “switch attack” combo.
There also seems to be an overworld HUB area for players to explore around to purchase items or talk to party members.
While the overall missions in the game is split into chapters, each of the chapters is comprised of a “roguelike” mode where you can guide your party members into different routes where random events will sometimes occur when you progress through the chapter.
As of time of writing, it is unsure that these paths are fixed in their respective chapters in ZZZ. During the Close Beta Test, there are a total of 12 playable characters for the players to try out.
Players are able to go through a character’s base stats and skills and what’s interesting to note is that under the equipment tab of the characters, instead of equipping weapons, players equip items that boosts stats. So, from that it’s safe to assume that each of the characters will have their signature weapons throughout the game.
And that pretty much sums up the interesting features and gameplay that showed up during the closed beta test for Zenless Zone Zero.
