Former MDEC Vice President of Digital Creative Content Division Hasnul Hadi Samsudin has joined Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Worldwide Studios (SIE Worldwide Studios), according to his Linkedin.
He updated his LinkedIn profile today, amending his title to Head of SIE WWS Malaysia Studio. Similarly, he’s also changed his Twitter banner to Sony’s 4 button logo, as well as tweeting about his first day.
No other information was given about the nature of his work at this studio.
Hasnul Hadi Samsudin has a storied career in Malaysia’s creative arts scene, working with various companies. He’s worked with Rhythm And Hues, the Malaysian-based VFX studio behind award-winning movies like Life of Pi. Previously , he was also on the board for FINAS, Malaysia’s Film regulatory board.
This is far from his first encounter with Sony, however. In 2014, he was the Malaysian representative for Sony Computer Entertainment America. At the same time, he was also the Deputy President of The Association of Post Production, Animation & Creative Content Malaysia (POSTAM).
SIE Worldwide Studios is a new studio, opened by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Its opening was announced late last year at the LevelUp KL. Mr. Hasnul is the first big name to be tied to the new studio.
This move is not out of character for Mr. Hasnul, who is a strong proponent of improving game development in Malaysia.
