Experiencing the ASUS CES 2023 Products
Possibly one of the main highlights for me during the event was the ProArt Studio 16 3D OLED, which features the ASUS Spatial Vision. The ASUS Spatial Vision to put it in layman terms is a feature that visualizes 3D effects on a 2D screen without needing any external devices.
The ProArt Studio 16 features an OLED screen where its high brightness and resolution helps to overcome the limitations on the conventional LCD screen. During the event, the content that they showed off on the laptop were some 3D videos they got online.
Personally, my eyes are very sensitive to 3D effects and VR, so I easily get headaches when viewing 3D effects. But surprisingly, I felt pretty comfortable viewing the effect being shown on the ProArt Studio 16. The 3D effects felt very smooth and it only took a short amount of time for my eyes to adjust to the screen when it normally takes a while.
Although, as cool as the ProArt Studio 16 is, the laptop is targetted towards a niche market since it’s most suitable for users who work on 3D stuff, and less so for the general public since they won’t bne able to utilise the laptop for its full potential.
Another highlight for me was the Zephyrus M16 where I think its main selling point would be the AniMe Matrix display and its customizability. The AniMe Matrix display is shown on the laptop’s lid and is made up of thousands of individual mini-LEDs, which displays customised images, animations and even visualisations.
The display can be customised through the ARMOURY CRATE app and you can tweak around a lot of settings and modes to suit your individual needs. From stuff like animation settings, to text effects, etc. There’s also some presets available on the app if you’re not particularly picky and just want to slap on something quick. It’s not necessarily practical per se, but it’s still a neat and fun way to show off your personality.
The Zenbook Pro 16X OLED featuring the ASUS Supernova SoM Design was another notable laptop that I got to try out at the event. At the event, they showed off the comparisons of the internals of two Zenbook Pro 16X OLED modes, one with and one without the SoM design.
Overall, the SoM design reduces the area occupied by the CPU and RAM quite significantly and increases the overall cooling efficiency. Another neat feature with this laptop is how it automatically raises the rear of the keyboard whenever you open up the laptop.
It’s a neat feature that helps add a more ergonomic design by making typing on that keyboard feel more comfortable, since your hands won’t be positioned awkwardly and it also helps with the adding more airflow to the laptop. Getting my hands on the keyboard and sure enough, it did feel comfortable since most of the keyboards that I use also have their stands prompt up.
The next laptop I tried out was the ROG SCAR 18 and right off the bat, the design felt kinda bulky in my opinion. But that’s mainly because of the laptop’s 18 inch 16:10 aspect ratio display screen. The screen also supports up to 240Hz refresh rates, and trying out CS:GO it definitely made it look smooth. I’m also appreciative that they made the bezel for the display screen as small as possible so that we get as much screen as possible.
Weight-wise, I felt that the SCAR 18 was relatively heavy as compared to my current laptop that I’m using. I can’t see myself wanting to carry around the laptop with me and would rather just have it set up in a stationary place.
Despite it feeling bulky, the build quality is pretty sturdy even though the laptop is mainly made with plastic material. The SCAR 18 also comes with an Intel Core i9 processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card which makes for a good gaming laptop choice.
The final product that caught my eye was the ExpertBook B9 OLED and just how lightweight this particular laptop is. I’ve been told that the ExperBook is made with Magnesium Lithium material which contributes as to why the laptop is so light. This was even more refreshing since I tried lifting this one up right after trying to lift up the SCAR 18.
Aside from its ease of carrying it around, the screen features a QHD OLED with 16:10 aspect ratio display. This particular version of the ExpertBook B9 OLED as compared with the previous 16:9 LCD version, offers a much more professional-grade of colour fidelity. From a first glance, the colours feel a lot more vivid and striking which can be useful for people who work with design or visuals related work, since they’re able to work with colours in a more accurate manner.
Another thing that I noticed was how they made the touch-pad significantly larger which helps with productivity for people working even on the go. Pairing that up with just how lightweight the laptop is, the ExpertBook B9 OLED is a super compact choice for people who tend to travel a lot and work on the fly.
All in all, I was pretty satisfied with getting to try out all of the products that were presented at the event. The laptops presented felt really good to use, and there’s a lot of neat features for the laptops that I didn’t know I wanted.
The display screens for the laptops are just pleasant to look at. The visuals and colours that were displayed on the laptop screens are just so striking and vibrant, it was overall pleasing to the eye. I also think that there’s a laptop for everyone, regardless of what you’re planning on using it for.
