Iconic mecha series Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is now streaming on Malaysian Netflix, allowing a new generation of audiences to catch up with the iconic anime.
It should be noted that as of time of writing, only the original Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is available to stream, and not its two compilation movies.
Getting ahold of a legal way to watch the anime has always been a difficult task, especially in the SEA region. Unlike the US, we don’t have access to streaming services like Funimation or Crunchyroll, so the main way to legally stream anime is having it be part of Netflix’s anime lineup.
That being said, the arrival of the mecha anime on Netflix has been but a matter of time since Evangelion’s arrival on the platform. Unlike Gurren Lagann, though, Evangelion came to Netflix with its compilation movies, including its alternate-ending movie.
The series was produced by Studio Gainax, who also made Neon Genesis Evangelion and Panty And Stocking With Garterbelt. It follows the adventures of Simon and Kamina, as they escape their underground village and discover the reality of their world. They do this with their two robots, Gurren and Lagann, who combine into the titular mecha Gurren Lagann.
Despite being many years since the series’ end, the franchise has been going strong with a wide variety of collaboration events with mobile games like Iron Saga and even console games like Hardcore Mecha.
