Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway, the newest Gundam movie set after the events of Char’s Counterattack, is coming to Netflix.
Netflix put out a new trailer for their Netflix GEEKED event, saying that they would be distributing Gundam Hathaway outside of Japan. No release date has been given either, so we won’t know when the movie is coming to the streaming platform.
We also got our first real look at the plot of Gundam Hathaway, which sees a Hathaway Noa still plagued by the events of Char’s Counterattack. Things get worse with the arrival of Mafty Nevue Erin, a presumably-Newtype likened to Char Aznable.
We don’t know much more than that, but the movie is definitely going to be a must-watch for those hankering for more Universal Century, especially pre-Gundam Unicorn.
From the outset the plot seems very similar to another follow-up movie, Gundam Narrative. Narrative was largely about retreading the first movie (in its case, Unicorn), trying to prevent someone from being the second coming of its primary antagonist. From the little we’ve seen of Gundam Hathaway, it doesn’t look like the series will be doing all that much different.
It also looks like Sunrise seems to be relying on Netflix for distributing Gundam to overseas fans, especially after the recent addition of the original Gundam trilogy and Char’s Counterattack on the platform. Similarly, Gundam Unicorn has been a mainstay of the platform’s anime lineup.
