Upcoming anime fighter Guilty Gear Strive will be releasing on PS4, PS5 and PC April 9th, with Deluxe and Ultimate Edition buyers getting three days early access. They also announced ways for new fans to catch up with the game’s story.
No prices have been given yet for the pre-orders, though they’ve discussed the contents of the Digital and Ultimate editions of the game.
The Deluxe Edition will come with three-day early Access, as well as the Season 1 character pass for the game’s DLC. This also includes additional story scenarios.
Meanwhile, the Ultimate Edition also comes with the game’s soundtrack and artbook. It also includes additional colors for characters, as well as a special color swap for Sol Badguy and Ky Kiske, that even changes the colors of their weapon effects to mirror each other.
Arc System Works, the game’s publisher, put out a new trailer talking about the features of the game, as well as its story.
In a livestream yesterday, they discussed that the upcoming Guilty Gear Strive would not be a direct continuation of the story from the Guilty Gear Xrd series. However, it would still take place in the same universe as those games.
Most interesting in the trailer was a shot that appears to show some sort of tag mode. This feature has never been shown or discussed before, so it’s unclear what this actually means. Some fans have speculated that it’s a feature exclusive to story mode, though more optimistic fans are hoping for a 2v2 mode.
New fans who want to get into the story can also read up via the Strive website. They’ve taken the story of Guilty Gear’s world and turned it into a comic, which is available both in English and Japanese. They’ll also be uploading the story mode of the Xrd series’ cutscenes, so you’ll be all caught up before Strive launches.
