Guilty Gear Strive has announced boss character I-No as the final addition to the game’s base roster, ahead of its April release.
Announced during the second Japan Fighting Games Roundtable livestream, I-No is a boss character from Guilty Gear XX: The Midnight Carnival. She’s appeared in subsequent Guilty Gear games as well, and is largely considered one of the most iconic Guilty Gear characters alongside actual face of the series Sol Badguy due to her Rock-N-Roll aesthetic.
Her moveset in Strive looks to be largely unchanged from previous games, as she retains her feature of being to hover in the air and having vicious mixups at her disposal.
Her attacks are largely music-themed, with blades formed from what appears to be Equalizer bars as well as grabs that use her guitar string.
One point of contention among fans is at the very end of her teaser, where she grows wings in a mini cinematic. While typically most trailers show off a character’s super, I-No is doing what appears to be her Instant Kill from Guilty Gear XX. However, that same move came back in Xrd as her regular Overdrive, so it’s anyone’s guess if Arc System Works was trying to give us a sneak peak at the Instant Kills in the game.
We also got a glimpse of the Arcade mode’s tag feature, whereby other CPU-controlled characters can join you in the fight. From the looks of things, I-No is reprising her status as a Boss character, and will likely be the boss of Strive’s arcade mode.
Sadly, I-No’s reveal does sting for fans hoping for their own characters to come to Strive, since it’s been confirmed that she would be the last addition to the game’s launch roster. DLC characters are indeed confirmed to be coming to Strive, but it’s going to be a while before we hear about any of those.
