Taming the Nine-Tailed Fox in Rune Factory 5 usually takes several days, but in this guide, I’ll teach you how to do it in just one.
Preparation
The Nine-Tailed Fox is the first boss players encounter in the game. Unlike other monsters, boss monsters like the Nine-Tailed Fox can only be tamed by giving it its favourite items. Before you can start taming the Nine-Tailed Fox in Rune Factory 5 in just one day as the title of the guide suggests, you will need to clear the Whispering Woods Dungeon first.
While not mandatory, the other item you should have with you is the Brush. Brushing monsters raises the odds of the monster being tamed.
To tame a boss monster, they must be fed with their favourite items. For the Nine-Tailed Fox, its favourite items are Tempura, Tempura Udon, Starfall Strawberries and Nine-Tailed Fox Bells. Luckily amongst those 4 items, the bell is easily farmable from the boss itself.
There are two ways you can get Nine-Tailed Fox Bells.
- as a drop from killing the Nine-Tailed Fox
- as a drop from successfully Spell Sealing (ZL) the Nine-Tailed Fox
Early in the game, you’ll need anywhere between 4 – 8 Nine-Tailed Fox bells to guarantee a successful tame, so it’s recommended to have a decent number of them.
Farming Nine-Tailed Fox Bells
Boss monsters only respawn the next day when they are killed. The trick to farm enough bells to tame the Nine-Tailed Fox in just one day involves the use of teleporting. To teleport, open the map by pressing the minus button on your Joy-Con and choose where to go.
- Spell Seal the Nine-Tailed Fox (requires it to be at less than half health)
- Pick up the Nine-Tailed Fox bell that is dropped.
- Teleport to Whispering Woods: Depths
- Fight the Nine-Tailed Fox again and repeat Step 1
As long as you do not kill the Nine-Tailed Fox, you can keep repeating these steps until you’re satisfied with the number of bells.
Taming the Nine-Tailed Fox
Before you actually decide to tame the boss, it is recommended to save first.
When the fight starts, equip your Brush and brush the Nine-Tailed Fox 15 times. This maximises the chance of the taming to be successful. There’s no point brushing more than 15 times, so when you no longer see the music icon popping up from the fox’s head, you can stop brushing it.
Next, it’s time to give the Nine-Tailed Fox its bells. Keep giving it the bells until you encounter this screen:
Congratulations for taming the Nine-Tailed Fox!
