Shin Megami Tensei V (SMTV) maintains the series staple multiple endings based on different ideological alignments. There are a total of four endings in SMTV, the first three are more or less the series traditional Law, Chaos, and Neutral endings, the fourth is an extra neutral ending with a slightly different outcome.
Here’s how you can get each of them.

Alignment Questions and Checking your alignment.
Throughout the game you’ll be given several questions and decisions to answer that will bring your characters to lean towards one of the three alignments, law, chaos, or neutral.
In general, questions that are more polite or involve following orders tend to be law. More snarky or brash answers and ones that involve defying orders tend to be chaos. More indifferent comments or saying you don’t know the answer are neutral. Also, any chance you get to agree with the alignment reps: Dazai (law), Yuzuru (chaos), Yakumo (neutral), you should do so to get their alignment points.
You can check your alignment by going to the overworld in the non-destroyed Tokyo. If your character icon spins clockwise, you’re law, if it’s anti-clockwise, you’re chaos and if it just stays in place, you’re neutral.
Shin Megami Tensei V Endings
Ultimately, however, these alignment choices don’t matter. Before you go into the final dungeon, you are given a choice of how you’ll recreate the world. This alone will decide what ending you get. Even if every choice you’ve made so far has been law-aligned, you can still choose chaos and get the chaos ending.
That being said, choosing the same alignment that you’ve been with up to that point will give you some extra content.
I will uphold God’s Order
This is the choice that leads to the law ending, where you side with Ichiro Dazai and Abdiel to recreate God’s kingdom.
If you’ve been law aligned up to this point you’ll unlock the bonus miracle ‘Rank Violation‘ which will remove the level limitation for fusing demons. You can purchase this miracle from the world of shadows for 10 glory.
You will also be able to unlock Herald Abdiel before the New Game Plus (which is where you can get on her other routes).
If you’ve completed 75% of the demon compendium, Sophia will give you the ‘seed of life’. If you give this to Maria in the final dungeon, she’ll give you an exclusive side quest for each dungeon. Her law quest is called ‘The Compassionate Queen’.
At the end of each quest, she’ll transform into a different demon that you have to fight and you’ll be able to acquire said demon afterward through fusion. Completing this quest will allow you to fuse Maria herself. Maria also has a secondary form that you can unlock by finishing the law, chaos, and one of the natural endings.
A Melchizedek NPC will also give you the quest ‘The Seraph’s Return’ asking you to meet with Archangel Michael in the Temple of Eternity. If you do this quest unaligned with your previous choices you have to pay 660,000 macca. Completing this quest will lead to Michael joining you.
I will recreate the world and save Tokyo
This choice will lead to the game’s chaos ending. Here you side with Yuzuru Atsuta and Prime Minister Tsukuyomi to create a pluralist world where people and gods are free to live as they please.
If you’ve been chaos aligned up to this point you’ll unlock the bonus miracle ‘Inheritance Violation‘ which will allow you to remove overwrite a demon’s fixed skills upon fusion. You can purchase this miracle from the world of shadows for 10 glory.
This route will allow you to unlock Holy Hayataro before the New Game Plus (which is where you can get on him other routes).
You will get an exclusive quest from Maria called ‘Wrathful Queen’. Unlocking it will allow you to fuse Innana.
The final dungeon will have an NPC Nebiros who has a message from Belial leading to the ‘The Red Dragon’s Invitation’ quest. Doing the quest with a different alignment will lead to you having to pay 660,000 macca. Belial will join you after completing the quest.
I will destroy the throne
The first neutral ending of the game. This is where you decide to side with Sohei Yakumo and Nuwa to destroy the throne of creation and prevent anyone from becoming the head god. This route has the least amount of exclusive content.
Getting this ending will allow you to unlock Nuwa before the New Game Plus (which is where you can get her on other routes).
Maria’s quest in “the Noble Queen’ which will unlock Danu for fusion.
Create a world for humanity alone
This is the hidden neutral ending, which requires more tasks to be completed in order to access it. Here Nahobino decides to create a world just for humans, where no gods or demons exist to interfere. The downside of this is as a god himself, he to must remain secluded from regular humans including his old friends.
The actual exclusive content is more or less the same as the ‘destroy the throne’ ending however there is an alternative cutscene for this route.
In order to achieve this ending, there are a number of sidequests that you must complete before finishing the Temple of Eternity.
Here are the quests you must complete:
- ‘The Egyptians’ Fate’ – During this quest, you must not kill Khonsu
- ‘The Falcon’s Head’
- ‘The Winged Sun’
- ‘The Succession of Ra’
- ‘Fionn’s Resolve’
- ‘The Destined Leader’
- ‘The Bull God’s Lineage’
- ‘A Plot Revealed’
- ‘A Universe in Peril’ – This one involves fighting Shiva
Once these are complete, go to the end of The Temple of Eternity and choose the neutral ‘destroy the throne’ option. As you go through the final dungeon, Nuwa will talk to you about creating a new world for humanity. This is a sign you have the right ending.
Upon entering the throne room you will be presented with the option for another ending. Choose to ‘Create a world for humanity alone’. This should lock you on to the 4th ending.
This guide should show you how to get the endings in Shin Megami Tensei V. What path will choose and what world will you create?
