While most gacha games are preparing for the Lunar New Year, but Punishing Gray Raven global will celebrate summer with the Grand Blue event. Even if you aren’t ready for summer during winter, fret not as this guide will help you get used to the heat that comes with this event.
Grand Blue will be ongoing in Punishing Gray Raven from 26th January 2022 – 1st March 2022.
Grand Blue Event Overview
On top of all the summer skins that we’re getting, we’ll also get our first-ever Transcendant, Camu: Crocotta alongside with a Construct, Vera: Rozen. Known amongst the community as Compositors, Transcendants are a new brand of playable characters, with their own exclusive class—Vanguard, as well as their own Memories. Transcendants enjoy major buffs in Dark Zones, special stages which appear in Babel Tower and other modes.
Thankfully, despite being an S-Ranked Transcendant, Camu: Crocotta is guaranteed to drop in his banner with every 10 pull like any A-ranked Construct. I’d recommend F2P players to pull for Camu as Transcendants are a must-have to clear content that normal Constructs couldn’t.
As for Vera: Rozen, she is an A-ranked Construct who serves as the healer for dark teams. It’s highly recommended to pull for her as she boasts pretty high DPS as a healer and is helpful in Warzone. Note that you cannot farm Vera’s Inver Shards through the event shop—the only way to unlock her is from gacha or farming her shards through her interlude. Note that from this event onwards, most A-ranked Constructs will only be obtainable in the middle of the event (Vera: Rozen is unlocked from 7th February onwards).
Event Chapters
First off, unlike Kowloong Metropolis which had Punishing Gray Raven players spending most of their time grinding in Firmus, Grand Blue does not have an entire section or “mode” for grinding, so to speak. There is also no specialised event shop (it’s just called Resource Shop).
Instead, this event adds AE-5 Cataclysm, a new stage to Combat Supply, for all your grinding needs. AE-5 is the sole stage that you’ll be doing your grinding on. Farm for tokens to exchange for 6★ Memories in the Resource Shop.
Instead of a new chapter in the game’s main story, Grand Blue introduces EX chapters. Basically, EX chapters function pretty much identically to a new main story chapter and is a permanent addition to the game. F2P players are free to ignore the EX chapter in favour of spending their Serum on AE-5 and other modes, it’s not a high priority.
As with pretty much any event, there are also new Interlude stages for the new characters added to the game. Owning the Construct/Transcendant means you can access their Interludes anytime. Unless you’re intent on farming for Vera’s Inver Shards, clear them once and never touch them again.
AE-5 Resource Shop and Memories
The only thing that the Resource Shop is selling is 6★ Memories. The 6★ Memories that will be available in the shop are:
- Koya
- Einsteina
- Shakespeare
- Heisen
- Hanna
- Bathlon
- Patton
- Zu Wenyuan
Koya is the only new Memory here and is specifically used for Camu: Crocotta. Feel free to farm up whatever you need. Outside of the Resource Shop, there are 3 new event 5★ Memories added to the game. They are:
- New Year Fireworks
- Lantern Festival: Reunion
- Liv-Ceremony
Of these 3, Lantern Festival: Reunion is the only Memory ‘meta’ enough to be used for serious play, and is primarily for Support Constructs like Vera: Rozen and Liv: Lux to buff their team. More details on how to obtain these Memories will be shared during the event itself.
Other Content
This section will touch on the other modes and content that will be part of Grand Blue.
The biggest addition to the game is the guild system, dubbed United Command Bureau. Players can join their friends and others in a United Command Bureau to take on missions and obtain rewards, including shards for Transcendants.
Besides that, Autopoiesis Maze is a brand-new mode that has not appeared in previous events. In this mode, players will need to make use of Transcendants and Constructs to clear various stages. Players select their stages in a grid filled with hexes as they make their way to the boss while buying buffs, similar to APUS. Autopoiesis Maze resets every week and offers rewards such as portrait frames for your in-game profile picture. Overall, it’s a pretty straightforward mode.
Grand Blue also brings with it Babel Tower and another Exploration/APUS-like roguelike mode. The Babel Tower this time around is called Theme Park, whereas the latter is named Legend of the Executor.
The featured co-op boss for this event is Gabriel. Overclock difficulty is back as well. As for the single-player boss challenge stage, Shark-speare will be making its debut as a new boss. Be sure to clear all 5 difficulties for the Black Cards.
Finally, Operation Summer is a new mode that adds several different mini-games, some are PVP while others are PVE.
