Another fan favorite weapon in the Souls series, you can actually get the Greatsword in Elden Ring fairly quickly without having to kill any bosses, just like the Zweihander.
Unlike the Zweihander, though, you don’t even need to buy the Greatsword. You can get the weapon at an abandoned carriage in Caelid, to ther north east of the map.
The best way to get to the Greatsword is to unlock the Rotview Balcony Site of Grace, then simply follow the main road. The two monstrous dogs are pretty hard to miss, and they’re right next to the carriage.
Your main challenge here will be the large dog enemies waiting right next to the carriage. For fans who are confused, the chest on the carriage is facing away from the main road, so you’ll need to be fast or sneaky to avoid the high-level enemies and run away with your own Greatsword.
The dog enemies will be pretty hard if you’re beelining it from the starting area- be careful of their long reach and seemingly endless aggression to chase you down. Remember that jump attacks are good for staggering them, so don’t be afraid to use that if you must fight.
If you need even more precision, here’s the exact location of the carriage with the Greatsword.
The Greatsword is a Colossal Sword in Elden Ring, featuring high damage but a much slower attack compared to smaller more agile weapons.
It sports a 31 STR requirement and 12 DEX, so you’ll want to at least get up to 21 STR to wield the weapon with two hands.
It’s also popular because it’s one of several parts of the Souls Series made in reference to Berserk, by the late Kentaro Miura. In Elden Ring, even its description echoes a common line about Guts’ sword being less of a sword and more of a hunk of iron than anything else.
