While different from traditional Pokemon in many ways, Pokemon Legends: Arceus still includes EV training, and this is done in the form of grit. But what is grit and how do you find it.
Grit is a new item that can be found in Pokemon Legends that can raise a pokemon’s effort values or EVs. For those that don’t know, EVs and EV training are invisible statistics that each Pokemon have. Raising these values will improve the pokemon’s base stats such as allowing for a higher health stat or speed stat.
These can help the pokemon become stronger in battle which is especially important in a game where a level 20 Kriketune can still two-shot your level 50 Garchomp.
There are four types of grit that have different ranges of stat point increases.
Grit Items | Effective Range |
---|---|
Grit Dust | +1 Effort Value from level 0-3 |
Grit Gravel | +1 Effort Value from level 3-6 |
Grit Pebble | +1 Effort Value from level 6-9 |
Grit Rock | +1 Effort Value from level 9 |
How to Find the Grit
There are multiple ways to find grit in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. You’ll probably find quite a bit just by casually playing through the game, but for those than want to max out their Hisuin Typlosion’s EV, here are the specific ways to get grit.
Releasing Pokemon
Pokemon Legends puts a lot of emphasis on catching as many pokemon as possible, even from the same species, and one way they further incentivize you to catch ’em all is by giving you grit for every pokemon you release back into the wild.
To do this, simply go to speak to Marie, the woman the runs the pastures in Jubilife Village, and select the pokemon you wish to release, you can use the X button to select multiple at a time. Afterward, another NPC named Oscar will arrive and give you the grit. You’ll get more grip depending on the number of pokemon and how high their levels were. Alpha pokemon in particular will bring in higher grade grit.
Trading with Zisu
Zisu is the leader of the security corps that can be found on the left side of Jubilife City. She can teach your Pokemon new moves but she’ll also trade grit with you. She’ll trade you git for a ratio of 10:1, this means that if you give her ten grit dust, she’ll give you one grit gravel. This means that you can trade-in your lower quality grit for some high-quality grit that you can get better use of.
Defeating Alpha Pokemon
Another good way to get grit is to battle alpha pokemon. In fact, battling any pokemon in the field has a chance of them dropping some grit however alpha pokemon, being some of the hardest enemies in the game, are pretty much guaranteed to have some grit on them.
Simply find an alpha pokemon, perhaps one on a lower level area to make sure they don’t get the jump on you and beat them in a battle.
True Grit
Following these techniques should lead to you gaining a greater amount of grit and by extension stronger pokemon. I’d say that of these methods, releasing pokemon or fighting alphas should get you the most grit quickest. Good luck hunting!
