Honkai Star Rail is finally making the proud General of the Cloud Knights on the Xianzhou Luofu- Jing Yuan recruitable on 17th of May 2023,18:00:00 until the 6th of June 2023,14:59:00 (server time)
The general is the last limited character to appear on Banner 1.0 alongside his also limited Light Cone – Before Dawn, until Banner 1.1 starts which has not gotten an official release date yet at time of writing, but we can safely assume it will start the minute Jing Yuan’s banner ends.
With that being said, should Jing Yuan be given a spot on the Astral Express or should you save those Special Star Rail Passes for other upcoming characters such as Silver Wolf or Kafka? Read on to find out.
General Information
Jing Yuan is a 5-Star, Lightning Type character that walks The Path of Erudition and Before Dawn is a 5-Star Light Cone that is suited for characters who walk The Path of Erudition. Due to the fact that Jing Yuan walks the same Path as Himeko or Serval, the General’s overall kit should focus more on attacking multiple enemies which we can see through his skill sets as below:
- Glistening Light – A single target basic attack that deals Lightning Type DMG equal to a percentage of Jing Yuan’s ATK
- Rifting Zenith (Skill) – An AoE attack that deals a percentage of Jing Yuan’s ATK as Lightning Type and increases Lightning-Lord’s Hits Per Action by 2
- Lightbringer (Ultimate) – Jing Yuan deals a percentage of his ATK to all enemies and increase Lightning-Lord’s Hits Per Action by 3 for the next turn
- Spirit Invocation (Technique) – At the start of the next battle, Lightning-Lord’s hits Per Action in the first turn increases by 3.
- Prana Extirpated (Talent) – Summons Lightning-Lord at the start of the battle, Lightning-Lord has a set base SPD and 3 hits Per Action. Deals Lightning DMG to enemy and deals proportionate Lightning DMG to adjacent enemies.
Much like Serval, Jing Yuan primarily deals Lightning Type DMG to multiple enemies during battle which begs the question as to what actually makes Jing Yuan unique that might potentially cost you 180 Special Star Rail Passes? The answer lies in the Lightning-Lord which does a follow-up attack after Jing Yuan that piles on huge chunks of DMG when built right.
Suggested Relics
Band of Sizzling Thunder is probably the most ideal one for Jing Yuan, simply because it ties in well with his entire kit which revolves around maximum Lightning Type DMG while also providing him the necessary ATK (%) values to boost the numbers further.
- 2pc – Increase Lightning DMG by 10%
- 4pc – Increase the SPD and ATK of the wearer
For the two Planar Ornaments, the Space Sealing Station Set would be a good pair with Jing Yuan as it is used to boost ATK by 12% and with a higher SPD value than 120 the Set will give you additional 12% ATK.
Suggested Light Cones (values are after Max Superimposed)
Ideally, the Light Cone that comes with the Jing Yuan, called “Before Dawn” would be a great one for him as it offers him stat bonuses and increments for his Crit DMG, Skill, Ultimate DMG as well as his follow-up DMG which is essentially his entire kit. However, if you are tight on those Special Star Rail Passes and are aiming to utilize them solely for the Limited Characters only I believe there are some options that are still viable to be used on Jing Yuan.
For free-to-play options, a few Light Cones that come to mind suitable for Jing Yuan are as follows:
- The Seriousness of Breakfast (4-Star)
Increases the wearers DMG by 24%. For every defeated enemy the wearers ATK increases by 8% stacking up to 3 time(s) - Databank (3-Star)
Increases the wearers Ultimate DMG by 56% - Sagacity (3-Star)
When the wearer uses their Ultimate, increases ATK by 48% for 2 turn(s)
The Light Cones above are pretty accessible to most, The Seriousness of Breakfast can be purchased from the Forgotten Hall while Databank and Sagacity should be relatively easy to obtain. While they do not carry the same effect as the featured Limited Light Cone they are still feasible enough to make your Jing Yuan perform well in battles.
Final Thoughts
Jing Yuan does not feel like a difficult character to build and slot within a team hence making him very accessible for free-to-play users such as myself. He seems like a good rounder overall and could provide the team with some pretty huge Electric Type DMG potential without getting him to e6.
While he has no interesting mechanics that makes him unique like Seele who gets an extra turn after defeating an enemy, he does however gets the job done as someone who walks the Path of Erudition, which is providing big area of effect DMG.
Personally I would be pulling for him regardless to test my luck as the pity from the Limited Banners do carry forward into the next one, I could either walk out empty handed or closer to the next Limited Character. My recommendation is to pull for the character if you like his overall design and have the resources to spare.
