Granblue Fantasy has many, many characters, so let’s have a tier list to make decision making just a little bit easier.
Let’s have some baselines first:
- This list will only cover limited characters, since they’re much harder to purchase through the regular pick tickets
- Performance of individual characters can vary depending on how your weapon grid is, and the content you are challenging
- When new characters are released, the risk of power creep is there
- Character kits may be adjusted in future updates
- Some characters may be lackluster on their own but are desired for their weapon, hence the Weapon Only category
FIRE
CHARACTER | ROLE | EARLY GAME PRIORITY | LATER GAME PRIORITY | WEAPON ONLY? | COMMENT |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Mugen | Buffer / Tank / Evoker Sacrifice | Maybe | Lower | Mainhand | Permanent buffs and massive damage potential is nice but it can be hard to control when you get the buffs, and what you get. |
Percival (Grand) | DPS / Debuffer / Buffer | Lower? | Higher | Yes | His kit is easy to understand, with lots of damage. For early game players, his inability to gain charge bar might be a bit of an issue, though granted he's got a pretty absurd kit to consider getting anyway. |
Rackam (Grand) | DPS / Buffer | Lower | Lower? | Mainhand? | Rackam offers some utility for his team but the game has evolved as such that even with his 5-star upgrade (which beginners won't be able to obtain) he's not typically considered for a party slot. His weapon used to be a premier option for Agni grids, but that too has fallen behind. |
Reinhardtzar (Grand) | DPS | Lower | Lower | Yes | Getting a boost to specs depending on melee-specialty frontline allies is likely unfeasible for beginners, and later game players would have much better options. He does have the damage potential, to some degree. |
Shiva | DPS | Higher? | Lower? | Mainhand? | Offers quite the chunk of damage and makes himself stronger. He has some defensive capabilities but it's on a long cooldown. |
Sturm | DPS | Higher? | Lower | Yes? | She has a form switch to either do more damage or Delay, as well as buff herself. |
Wilnas | DPS / Evoker Sacrifice | Lower? | Lower? | One-off? | He has nukes on a long cooldown, and needs to charge attack to triple attack when he can't gain charge bar. His secondary ability only kicks in for Battle V2 which isn't for older raids. |
Anila | Buffer / Debuffer | Higher | Lower? | One-off? | Packs a lot of utility for both against enemies and for her team. |
Scathacha (Valentine) | Support | Lower | Depends | For some bulk and defensive utility | Plays with low HP (relatively high risk) playstyle. Newer players don't have the HP, and she's relatively niche depending on what high level content you're challenging. |
Vira (Valentine) | Tank | Higher? | Lower? | Yes | Has a version of her Light (Grand)'s skillset. When her Merge is up, she will only take Wind damage capped, but it's per hit so she can still die to multi-hits especially with her reduced HP. |
Beatrix (Swimsuit) | DPS / Evoker Sacrifice | Lower | Lower? | Mainhand | While she has some defensive measures to enable playing around her low HP, as long as it's not Dodge All or there's plain HP damage, her survivability is suspect. |
Ilsa (Swimsuit) | Debuffer / DPS | Higher? | Lower? | Mainhand? | Her debuffs are nice for utility and inflict plain damage on an attack trigger, but she herself is lacking to the DPS powerhouses in her element. |
Io (Swimsuit) | Support | Higher | Lower | Mainhand? | For newer players, her defensive abilities and buffs should be quite handy, but her kit is relatively outdated for later content. |
Izmir (Yukata) | DPS / Buffer | Higher | Higher? | Wait and see | She can hit high highs and help your team to do so too. She should serve later game players well in general content until you need more specific requirements. |
Kumbhira (Swimsuit) | DPS | Higher | Higher | Yes | Even without a high investment grid, as long as its built well enough, players can generally expect pretty high skill damage from her. |
Medusa (Swimsuit) | Debuffer / Support | Higher? | Lower | Yes (Skill Damage) | Her utility should be quite helpful for newer players, disregarding the requirements for her self-buffs via Primal synergy. For later game, her numbers aren't likely to give her a big edge. |
Mimlemel (Swimsuit) | Burst | Lower | Depends | No? | She's basically built for one-turn bursts which will be more relevant for later game players. |
Mirin (Swimsuit) | Support / DPS | Higher? | Lower? | Yes | Damage ramps up over longer battles and has some support utility in both healing and debuffs. Outside of her 200% charge bar, later game players may not find her very useful. |
Percival (Swimsuit) | DPS | Higher? | Lower | Wait and see | Unique debuff utility, but otherwise will fall off in the later game even against his own other versions. |
Silva (Yukata) | Support | Lower | Depends | Mainhand only? | Her gimmick doesn't let her normal attack while supporting her party. Newer players probably would prefer all their frontline to be active, while later game players might not find the content where she might be useful. |
Teena (Swimsuit) | Support | Higher | Higher? | Mainhand | Her support and utility are all on damaging skills, very handy for Full Auto. Depending on what you're looking for in the later game, she should serve well for general content. |
Azazel (Halloween) | DPS / Buffer | Higher? | Lower? | Mainhand | For his own personal damage, he needs to land Petrify. If the boss is immune, then he could buff his allies. You could stand to use more straightforward characters though. |
Danua (Halloween) | DPS / Debuffer | Lower | Lower | Wait and see | Her finicky kit of landing Petrify/Sleep, and her lowering her own HP doesn't make her the best unit to consider having outside of being a favourite character. |
Altair (Holiday) | Support | Higher | Lower | Yes | His utility is similar to his permanent Water version, providing both buffs to allies and debuffs to enemies. Since he's basically pure utility, later game players may not find a need for him. |
Cain (Holiday) | Support | Higher? | Lower? | Mainhand? | While he can extend buffs, getting random ones and having a long cooldown on the ones he can give, doesn't seem too useful later on. |
Nemone (Holiday) | DPS | Lower | Higher | Wait and see | Since she makes the main character tank for her, new players with lower stats will probably find this detrimental. For later game players, they can expect quite a bit of skill damage and some buffs. |
WATER
CHARACTER | ROLE | EARLY GAME PRIORITY | LATER GAME PRIORITY | WEAPON ONLY? | COMMENT |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Drang (Grand) | Support | Higher | Lower | Yes | Much like Sturm, he has a form switch that either lets him support his party members or debuff the enemy. He has his uses, sure, but less for general content. |
Europa (Grand) | Support | Higher | Depends | Yes | She should be able to help newbies quite well, while her use for later game players is dependent on the content you're challenging. |
Katalina (Grand) | Support | Higher | Depends | Not as high priority | At her base level, she's still got great abilities for new players when they're in need of a certain level of defense. Because of her relatively defensive nature, she doesn't necessarily make the frontline for later game formations. |
Lancelot (Grand) | DPS | Higher | Higher | Yes | His kit is incredibly simple to ramp up and let rip. |
Pholia | Support | Higher | Depends | Yes | She's not Full Auto friendly, but her buffs can support new players. Later game players are unlikely to be as reliant on her unless they're running a Staff-specialty team. |
Poseidon | DPS | Higher | Higher? | Yes | There's no frills to his kit; he has some defensive support but is otherwise going to be chunking things down when allowed to. |
Wamdus | Support | Lower? | Higher? | Yes | Has a little bit of flexibility with regards to her first skill. Since she can only use her charge attack at 200% and doesn't have innate hostility, her actual usage might be more finicky. Her other support skill will not be relevant to new players. |
Vajra | DPS / Buffer | Higher? | Higher? | Wait and see | Her stacking buffs are pretty nice and she gets even more utility as you get her to her full potential. It just depends on whether you can fit her in a late game team, while new players will have to contend with a -30% charge bar demerit for her double strike. |
Cassius (Valentine) | DPS | Higher | Higher | Yes | He can reduce his cooldowns and still fire his skills automatically, what's not to like? |
Andira (Swimsuit) | Support | Higher | Higher | Yes | She can enable your team to go ham, more so for charge attack oriented teams. Unfortunately, you can't control when her full heal goes off if she starts in the frontline, but it can be a nice emergency button for a full auto team. |
Cagliostro (Swimsuit) | Support | Lower | Depends | Mainhand | Arguably the cornerstone for a Staff-specialty team or at least a Critical-oriented team. It would be tougher for a new player to work on the weapons needed, while it will depend on what a later game player is willing to invest in. |
Clarisse (Swimsuit) | Support | Higher? | Higher? | Wait and see | Dealing plain damage is always welcome. It's pretty easy to see her potential synergy with Cagliostro and have her slot in to a Staff-specialty team should you go that route. Newbies can benefit from her MC-buff and her ability to turn enemies into Fire. |
Diantha (Swimsuit) | Support | Higher? | Depends | Wait and see | She doesn't do damage on charge attack but does bring party-wide triple attack besides healing and buffs which can prove useful for newbies, but dependent on content for late game. |
Europa (Swimsuit) | Support | Higher? | Depends | Wait and see | A different flavour from her Grand version, being more offensive by increasing damage cap, multi attack and double charge attack. New players may prefer her Grand version to help in survivability. |
Grea (Swimsuit) | DPS | Higher? | Depends | Mainhand | If you can have her link up with another effective DPS, then she might shine. Otherwise buffing only one other person may not be what you're looking for. She does at least get to deal increased damage to foes with her unique debuff, but it has some downtime. |
Helel ben Shalem (Swimsuit) | DPS | Lower | Higher | Yes | Her low HP can be detrimental to new players, but in the later game, her utility and damage will be useful for tough content. |
Izmir (Swimsuit) | DPS | Lower | Depends | Wait and see | Her main gimmick is the Blizzard field which newer players are unlikely to utilize effectively. Later game players don't necessarily need the field effect. |
Jeanne d'Arc (Swimsuit) | DPS / Evoker Sacrifice | Lower | Lower? | Mainhand | For low HP playstyles. She KO's herself after 19 turns, not before inflicting damage on herself and trying to go turbo. |
Kolulu (Swimsuit) | DPS / Evoker Sacrifice | Lower | Higher? | Yes (Skill damage) | Another one for the low HP playstyle. She can give her party buffs and has a bit more survivability potential while dealing skill damage nukes. Lower priority for new players since they don't have that much HP to play around with. |
Lucio (Swimsuit) | Support | Higher | Depends | Yes | Nice ally buffs and enemy debuffs. The single-target ally buff may not be as useful for a later game player who may have options for teamwide buffs instead or doesn't have effective burst setups. |
Narmaya (Swimsuit) | DPS | Lower | Lower | Wait and see | Her kit can be read as a auto-attacking monster with ramp up time, but Water is an incredibly stacked element as is. |
Sandalphon (Swimsuit) | Support / DPS | Higher | Lower? | Wait and see | He has high auto attack potential thanks to his Coffee Break stacks while also buffing his teammates. As the game matures, that's not necessarily enough to give him a spot in the party. |
Siegfried (Swimsuit) | DPS | Lower? | Lower? | Mainhand | Has innate tankiness to offset his 'risky' playstyle thanks to his constantly lowering HP. It's percentage based so new players might still be able to utilize him, since he also shields himself. His utility is dependent on content and in high difficulty raids, needing to manage his HP is not especially ideal. |
Rosetta (Halloween) | Tank / Support | Higher? | Lower? | Mainhand | Being able to tank all-ally attacks is nice, with shield to boot. The shield's actual viability in higher difficulty content is probably not something to rely on. |
Arulumaya (Holiday) | Support | Higher? | Lower | Mainhand? | Random buffs and veil is handy if you've got not many options. |
Catura (Holiday) | MC Support | Lower? | Higher? | Wait and see | In the early game, you might want someone more supportive of your whole party. Later game, the MC's various masteries can make them the one man army. |
Mirin (Holiday) | DPS | Higher? | Depends | Maybe | 200% charge bar is always nice for one-turn kills via charge attack, more so in an element with Bonito. Also has all-ally substitute with Dodge All, though viability will be variable. |
EARTH
CHARACTER | ROLE | EARLY GAME PRIORITY | LATER GAME PRIORITY | WEAPON ONLY? | COMMENT |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Alexiel (Grand) | Defense / DPS | Higher | Depends | Mainhand | Damage cut and Veil with Unchallenged to avoid damage will be useful throughout the game. Sticking with Alexiel depends if you have her Swimsuit version as they offer different flavours of defense. |
Cain (Grand) | Support / DPS | Higher | Lower? | Yes | He has nice buffs to help newer players, while later game you're likely to have buffs from other sources that dilutes his effectiveness. |
Eugen (Grand) | DPS | Lower? | Higher? | Mainhand | His weapon used to be the premier choice for Titan grids, but it's still pretty nice for a mainhand. Without his full uncap, he's somewhat clunkier to use and doesn't have as much potential damage. |
Galleon | Support | Higher | Higher | Yes | Outside of her buff not being usable during full auto, her one active skill does 3 things at once and automatically casts it's worth her not attacking every other turn. |
The Golden Knight | DPS | Higher | Higher | Yes | Being able to mimic most skills is pretty nice flexibility; then her kit lets her reduce her cooldowns, and since buffs on her can't be removed, it's easier to enable her ability to charge attack twice. |
Leona (Grand) | Support / DPS | Higher | Lower? | Yes | She has utility helpful for new players. However, later game players are likely to find her kit lacking. |
Sandalphon (Fantasy) | DPS | Lower? | Depends | Yes | He can remove buffs from both the enemies and you. He's got other utility but newer players might struggle with the fact you can't heal him and he always takes HP damage. |
Cidala | DPS | Higher | Higher? | Yes | The linked skill lock-out is not as harsh with the zodiac so long they get to charge attack then go wild after a one turn build up. The random buffs and debuffs will have to be worked around. |
Mahira | Support | Higher | Higher | Wait and see | Arguably one of the best team buffers you can get for the element. |
Medusa (Valentine) | Debuffer | Higher? | Lower? | Mainhand? | Her kit is relatively gimmicky, one part of it geared to boosting her team's charge attack capabilities. Her debuffs can be nice for newer players, but not really worth the slot. |
Monika (Valentine) | Support | Lower? | Higher? | Yes | Her skills let her be somewhat flexible, though they are linked skills. The additional effects only occur if she herself has 12 or more buffs, so enabling her to charge attack a lot with one more dedicated support for more buffs might do it (unlikely to be feasible for newer players). |
Alexiel (Swimsuit) | Tank | Lower? | Higher / Depends | Mainhand | For more general content, her Grand version should suffice for most. Her swimsuit version is typically seen in much later game content, so if you're intending to challenge those as Earth, you'll likely want her. |
Illnott (Swimsuit) | Support? | Lower? | Depends | Yes | Brings utility and team triple attack buffs at cost of charge bar. Since her unique debuff can't be recast and new players will probably find it hard to get the 100% charge bar needed even with her frontline boost. Later game players will find use in her burst potential. |
Jessica (Yukata) | Support | Higher | Lower? | Wait and see | End of turn healing and utility should be quite nice for newer players, while later game players can probably look for someone with more personal damage. |
Metera (Swimsuit) | DPS | Higher | Higher | Yes | Might need to manage those stacks a little but she's otherwise just press button and watch the numbers go. |
Rosetta (Swimsuit) | Tank | Higher | Lower | No | For an early game support / tank, she can be a crutch, but her numbers just aren't that good for later. |
Silva (Swimsuit) | DPS / Support | Lower? | Higher? | Mainhand? | The max HP lowered reduces her actual HP and isn't just damage, which makes her really fragile before a new player might be able to use her unique backline support skill. Her own debuff helps at least, but that shouldn't be used as a guarantee of her survival. |
Tikoh (Swimsuit) | Healer | Higher? | Depends | No? | Her kit is the quintessential healer with the ability to remove all enemy buffs and even give them to you... once. She's the emergency backline, if you ever need it. |
Vikala (Swimsuit) | Support | Lower? | Higher | Yes | She doesn't attack and is oriented to making her team attack more and better in the frontline, or she can swap with an ally to give them her confidence-boosting ears. New players are unlikely to have the stats to make use of the buffs. |
Vira (Swimsuit) | Debuffer? | Higher? | Lower | No | She has some handy utility, but her numbers aren't that good for later content. |
Cucouroux (Halloween) | DPS | Higher? | Depends | Yes | Guaranteed triple attacks with no demerit on her charge bar should be appealing to new players, and can also spam normal attacks. If you're tackling any later game content that requires multi-hits, then she's your gal. |
Eustace (Halloween) | DPS | Higher | Lower? | Mainhand? | Much easier to use than his initial incarnation, he can provide both team buffs and handy debuffs. Later game players will probably not need to rely on his utility as much. |
Zeta and Vaseraga (Halloween) | DPS | Lower? | Depends | Yes? | For triple-attacking purposes, they can become quite fragile, besides also needing to manage their linked skills. In theory, you could have both their buffs up simultaneously which may not be feasible for a newer player. |
Anthuria (Holiday) | Support | Lower? | Higher? | Yes | While Anthuria's buffs for the MC and party are nice, her long cooldowns would probably be troublesome for new players. She needs to get buffs or heals from the MC to lower those cooldowns which may be too restrictive for newbies. |
Clarisse (Holiday) | Debuffer | Lower? | Lower | Wait and see? | Some handy stacking debuffs aside, the mechanics on her unique debuff is probably not worth the trouble. |
Europa (Holiday) | Debuffer / Support | Higher | Higher | Wait and see | Her kit lets her offset the demerits she can apply to the team in exchange for the buffs she gives, so just put her in. |
Magisa (Holiday) | DPS / Support | Higher | Depends? | Wait and see | Just use her buttons. |
Narmaya (Holiday) | DPS | Higher | Higher | Wait and see | Aside from timing her substitute (aside from her damage buff), she's got self sustain and damage so just use her. |
WIND
CHARACTER | ROLE | EARLY GAME PRIORITY | LATER GAME PRIORITY | WEAPON ONLY? | COMMENT |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Grimnir (Grand) | DPS / Support | Higher | Depends? | Yes | He protecc, he attacc and most importantly, his weapon is probably the one you want to fill your whale grid with. He does have his utility after some ramp up time, but later game content often has a lot more considerations. |
Lecia (Grand) | Support / DPS | Higher? | Lower? | Yes | Lecia has a flexible kit to assist new players, but more likely you'd want her weapon rather than her. |
Monika (Grand) | Support / DPS | Higher? | Higher? | Yes | Her kit is flexible with additional effects over time. She does have the linked-skill limitation and no option to reset her cooldown herself so you might not be able to use her other utility. |
Narmaya (Grand) | DPS | Higher | Higher | Yes | She can switch between attacking and tanking but she's probably only going to be ever attacking. |
Rosetta (Grand) | Tank / Support | Higher | Depends | Mainhand / Yes | She can be an incredible crutch unit for budding Wind players to farm for Earth weapons since Yggdrasil Omega has multi-hit attacks. She still has pretty nice buffs later, but she'd likely be phased out by then. |
Andira | Support | Higher | Higher | Wait and see | She starts out pretty nice, and gets even better at supporting her team. |
Catura | Support / DPS | Higher | Higher | Wait and see | You only need to consider her first 2 skills; healing your MC and later charge bar, and her multi-hit attack with unique debuff. |
Grimnir (Valentine) | DPS | Higher | Higher | Mainhand | He doesn't have the damage on charge attack, but his other utility and skills pretty much makes up for it. |
Albert (Swimsuit) | DPS | Higher | Lower | Mainhand | Has nice utility for newbies and DPS through the quad attack. Later game players can probably get more utility from other Wind limiteds though. |
Anila (Swimsuit) | Support | Higher | Depends | Yes | A milder version of her Zodiac self. Doesn't do all that much. |
Eustace (Swimsuit) | Support / DPS | Higher? | Lower? | Wait and see | Throw on his buff to someone else and both become better. Neat, but probably not high priority for a slot. |
Jeanne d'Arc (Swimsuit) | Support | Higher | Depends | Mainhand | Offers defensive utility and healing. Unlikely to make the cut for most general content. |
Korwa (Swimsuit) | Support | Lower? | Higher | No? | She doesn't deal damage on charge attack. Not full auto friendly, but for a later game player with a decent grid, she lets you do some pretty big burst turns. |
Shion (Swimsuit) | DPS | Lower? | Lower? | Wait and see | Much like her permanent fire version, she has a gimmick to scale off katana-specialty allies. As such, forming a party for max efficiency is probably too much trouble for most. |
Siegfried (Yukata) | DPS | Higher? | Lower | Wait and see | New player grids can take advantage of his low HP playstyle and minor utility. Later game players will probably have more options for his slot. |
Yngwie (Yukata) | DPS | Higher? | Depends | Yes | He's a less charge bar reliant version of his permanent Water unit, bringing utility and self-sustain. New players can probably find more use out of his buffed stats. |
Yuel (Swimsuit) | Support / DPS | Higher | Depends | Mainhand | She can deal plain damage besides her other utility which will be helpful for new players. Later game players may only consider using her depending on which utility they need. |
Lich (Halloween) | DPS | Higher | Higher | Yes | She's much like her Grand version which is to say, yes just use her. |
Vane (Halloween) | Tank | Higher? | Lower? | Yes | He proteccs, even when in the backline. He does have some potential for high personal damage though he won't do that much else. |
Meteon (Holiday) | DPS | Higher | Depends | Wait and see | His high damage multiplier should prove handy for new players, while he's more likely relegated to one-turn bursts in the later game. |
Seruel (Holiday) | Support | Higher? | Depends | Mainhand? | His skillset is pretty much meant to mitigate damage. If you don't need any of that, then his utility would be lower. |
LIGHT
CHARACTER | ROLE | EARLY GAME PRIORITY | LATER GAME PRIORITY | WEAPON ONLY? | COMMENT |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Cagliostro (Grand) | Support | Higher? | Higher | Yes | Her buffs are great, but new players would probably find it harder to try get her 40 turn cooldown fast enough to be relevant. |
Io (Grand) | Support / DPS | Higher? | Higher | Yes (lower priority) | She gets better as you get to raise her thanks to her ability to do the "Io Cannon", potentially firing off up to 26 hits of damage on her own. |
Jeanne d'Arc (Grand) | Support | Lower? | Higher? | Yes | She does have some nice utility in triple attack and a massive one-turn damage boost, the latter being more likely to be relevant to later game players |
Lucio | Support / DPS | Higher | Lower? | Yes | His buff is on a fairly long cooldown but he does have his skill damage to fall back on, outside of his own stacks. Seeing how stacked some of Light's units are, he's fallen behind. |
Nehan | Support | Lower | Depends | Yes | His buffs come with drawbacks that may be detrimental to new players. For later game players, he offers the premium burst damage turn. |
Noa (Grand) | Support | Higher | Depends | Yes | He's easy to use for new players to simply grant someone else a charge attack. Later game players may only use him for certain challenging content. |
Vira (Grand) | Tank / DPS | Higher | Higher / Depends | Mainhand | She can be a great tank at all stages, becoming quite the powerhouse later on, Her use case for later game players can be dependent on whether they do need her tankiness as there are other units who can dish out more damage. |
Yuni | Support | Higher | Higher / Depends | Yes | It's easy to get her team buff, just maybe the stacks needed to use her other skills might be troublesome in a way. If you're a later game player, you'd likely use her for general content, just taking her out for burst turns. |
Kumbhira | DPS | Higher | Higher | Wait and see | She's decent to start, and only gets better later on. |
Aglovale (Valentine) | DPS | Higher | Higher | Wait and see | No need to think about it, just hit his buttons and watch things fly. |
Ladiva (Valentine) | Support | Higher? | Lower? | Mainhand? | She may see frontline for a new player, while a later game player might consider a backline slot for her buff. Otherwise, her role is pretty niche. |
Melissabelle (Valentine) | Tank | Higher? | Depends | Yes | She has an all-ally substitute which can be nice depending on what you're tackling. She has the self-sustain and additional utility, but if you're not in need of that, there can be other units you can have. |
De la Fille (Swimsuit) | Healer | Higher? | Lower | No? | She offers some defensive utility which is likely handier for newer players than later game. |
Halluel and Malluel (Swimsuit) | Support / DPS | Higher? | Depends | Mainhand? | Has healing, plain damage and team buffs. The multiplier is a little bit low, so later game players may only opt to use them for the plain damage. |
Heles (Swimsuit) | DPS | Higher? | Lower | Yes / Mainhand | She has some ally buffs and could bring some high highs, but her kit is too outdated for this stage of the game. |
Naoise (Swimsuit) | Defensive Support | Higher? | Depends | Mainhand? | He gives up to 70% Dark damage cut besides his utility, primarily to boost charge attack. Later game players won't necessarily need this specific utility. |
Narmaya (Yukata) | DPS | Higher? | Higher? | Mainhand | Has auto-activating skills and plain damage. Her skills are pretty simple, maybe too straightforward without the glut of effects other units can have. |
Rosamia (Yukata) | DPS | Higher? | Higher? / Depends | Mainhand | Needs some ramp up time, but easier to use than her base version and has team utility. |
Shiva (Swimsuit) | DPS | Lower? | Higher | Wait and see | Lower priority for new players only because they don't have the grid to fully maximize his potential. Later game players can opt to remove the seraphic weapon when they have him. |
Sturm (Swimsuit) | DPS | Lower? | Lower? | Yes | Light tends to have high HP so her reduced HP may not be such a problem, but newer players don't get access to that HP early on. As for later game players, she could be good, but definitely not for full auto. |
Zahlhamelina (Yukata) | Support | Higher? | Lower? | Wait and see | She has a field effect much like her permanent Fire version, in addition to other buffs she can give. Outside of that though, later game players are unlikely to find much use for her. |
Zeta (Swimsuit) | DPS | Lower? | Depends | Mainhand? | She has a permanent buff but newer players might find it difficult to keep her alive thanks to her increased hostility. For later game players, she could be useful for burst turns. |
Charlotta (Halloween) | Support? | Higher? | Lower | Wait and see | Unfortunately, her kit is far outdated so she could be a crutch character for bonus potions but not much else. |
Florence (Halloween) | Support | Lower | Higher | Wait and see | Similarly to units who can sharply increase attack, she'll see more use for a later game player with a grid that can take advantage of the boosts. A newer player can certainly enjoy the debuffs and cooldown reset though. |
Hallessena (Halloween) | DPS | Lower? | Lower? | Mainhand | She has some high multipliers to her attack potential but it's conditional to whether you can set her up right. |
Mugen (Halloween) | Tank | Lower | Lower? | Yes | Kit looks tuned to synergize with Nehan but there are arguably better buffers for the shorter fights you might use him in. |
Lily (Holiday) | Healer | Higher | Higher | Mainhand? | Full array of buffs ask some more shuffling from you, but her support abilities on their own are really good when you need it. |
Mahira (Holiday) | Support | Higher | Higher | Yes | Hitting her buttons is all you need. |
Mary (Holiday) | Support | Higher? | Lower | Mainhand? Otherwise, no | She can apply Bounty for increased drop rate potential and has a single-ally buff, but otherwise nothing really noteworthy. |
Metera (Holiday) | DPS | Higher | Higher | Mainhand? | Manage her stacks a little and watch the numbers fly. |
DARK
CHARACTER | ROLE | EARLY GAME PRIORITY | LATER GAME PRIORITY | WEAPON ONLY? | COMMENT |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Black Knight | Tank / Utility | Higher? | Depends | Yes | Has useful utility and survivability gets better. Whether you need that or not will depend on the content you're challenging. |
Fediel | DPS | Higher | Higher | Yes | There's basically no question that the meta teams at time of writing will have her. |
Ferry (Grand) | Support | Higher? | Depends | Mainhand | She's mostly for utility as the game matures, but new players can definitely benefit as they build themselves up. |
Helel ben Shalem | DPS / Support | Higher | Higher? | Yes | Due to Dark's frontline being quite crowded, she's likely to be sidelined. She does offer certain utility if you need it. |
Lich | DPS | Higher | Higher | Yes | With her in the picture, she's basically fixed in a typical high-end Dark team and would hardly underperform even for a beginner. |
Olivia | DPS / Utility | Higher? | Depends | Yes | The existence of Fediel and Lich have kinda put her by the wayside unless you need her specific utility. |
Orchid | DPS / Support | Higher? | Higher? | Mainhand | If you need a little more defense, Orchid is here to fit the bill. |
Rei | Support | Lower? | Depends | Yes | She herself doesn't attack if she's buffing an ally so her use case will depend on whether you have a unit like Seox who can go absolutely crazy to fully utilize her. |
Zooey (Grand) | Support? | Lower? | Depends | Wait and see | The primary enabler of the low HP playstyle by providing a safety net and high one-turn burst potential. She can still work well with a typical Omega grid while her use case may vary for higher end players if they're not built for low HP damage. |
Vikala | Support | Higher? | Higher? | Wait and see | Two fields can't exist at the same time so if you have Fediel, as nice as her buffs are, you're probably less likely to use her. |
Clarisse (Valentine) | Support | Higher | Higher? | Wait and see | She has some incredible utility for both defense and offense, and plain damage as turns go by. |
Amira (Swimsuit) | DPS | Higher? | Depends | Mainhand? | She'll normally be considered for burst teams but she does have a kit that could help her in longer battles. Otherwise yes, she'd be limited to one-turn charge attack bursts. |
Anthuria (Yukata) | Support | Higher? | Lower? | Wait and see | She has buffs that she herself can extend with a degree of self-synergy, but the numbers aren't all that high. |
Danua (Swimsuit) | DPS? | Higher? | Lower | Wait and see | She offers some utility, but an outdated kit in a crowded element doesn't make her competitive. |
Magisa (Swimsuit) | DPS | Higher? | Higher? | Wait and see | Unique utility in offering Dispel Cancel so that you can keep your buffs besides the actual damage. A different flavour of her Holiday version; simple to use. |
Meg (Swimsuit) | DPS | Higher? | Depends | Wait and see | She has high personal damage potential and can give the same to her allies, but as it is, the Dark frontline is 'fixed'. |
Tabina (Swimsuit) | Debuffer | Higher? | Depends | Yes | Her utility comes in her stacking and random debuffs on no cooldown. If you don't need multi-hit attacks with debuffs, you may not need to consider her. |
Vajra (Swimsuit) | Buffer / Debuffer | Higher | Higher? | Yes | She can get her stacks pretty quickly. The cooldown on her team buff is decently long and it's probably a little unlikely you'll guarantee her Double Strike, but she's simpler than her Water Zodiac version at least. |
Cagliostro (Halloween) | Support | Higher? | Lower | Mainhand | Buffs are nice for a new player besides the additional effects as the battle goes longer, but her kit is pretty outdated for the later game. |
Lady Grey (Halloween) | Support | Higher? | Depends | Mainhand? | Helps boost a high HP playstyle with defensive buffs. Aside from that though, probably not too high priority. |
Fiorito (Holiday) | DPS | Lower | Lower | Yes | She could see a niche spot in the backline, because though she can end her Double Strike cooldown on charge attack, she doesn't actually have a way to restore her HP so that she can use it in a relevant way. |
Rosetta (Holiday) | Support | Higher? | Lower | Wait and see? | Another one whose kit has been grossly outdated. She has some utility and support capabilities but otherwise not very remarkable. |
Take this more of a suggestion than a be-all end all as Cygames has tried to update older kits, and the “meta” can definitely change. So, good luck!
