Note that this guide will be an early first impressions of the newly released Nikke, and her overall performances and usability may differ over time.
Skill Kit (values based on Skill Level 10)
Her Skill 1 – Pirate’s Grit is a passive ability which contains two effects that activate when certain conditions are met.
- First effect activates when critical attack hits up to 2 time(s) and will inflict Sea Breeze to her targets, reducing their defenses for 1.9% of Mast’s DEF per stack, up to 50 time(s) and lasts for 3 seconds.
- Second effect activates when Mast’s HP falls below 70% and will grant herself and 2 allies with the highest ATK with continuous Critical Damage boost of 50.94%.
Her Skill 2 – Pirate’s Sight is a passive ability that activates upon entering battle. When activated, Mast and 2 of her allies with the highest ATK will gain 23.56% Critical Rate for 30 seconds.
Lastly, her Burst Skill is Sail Through the Tempest! – an active ability that affects both allies and enemies. It has a cooldown time of 20 seconds.
- Upon activation, affects herself and 2 allies with the highest ATK, granting 86.2% of the Mast’s Max HP to allies without restoring health. Additionally, grants 25.19% Critical Damage. Lasts for 7 seconds.
- Enemies afflicted with Sea Breeze will receive 4.52% of final ATK as damage upon activation. Additionally, mirrors the Sea Breeze stack count every second for 7 seconds.
Skill Breakdown
Mast is a Support who boosts critical rate and damage for herself and allies, which put her at a less desirable spot compare to regular attack buffers. The reason is that critical hits are generally less effective than pure attack buffs due to how damage is calculated. That being critical damage is calculated additively instead of multiplicatively, resulting in attack buffs generally providing better damage output.
That being said, she is still a solid Supporter that can work nicely with Nikke who can take advantage of the critical boost. Modernia is a Nikke that comes to mind, an extremely powerful damage dealer who possesses high fire rate and has a built-in Critical Damage buff which can stack well with Mast’s abilities.
In addition, Mast’s ability to reduce enemies’ defenses will help in boosting the squad’s overall damage regardless of classes. Utilizing her critical rate boosting abilities and the speed of SMG fire rate, Mast can quickly stack up the Sea Breeze debuff to enemies. However, note that her Skill 2 only lasts for 30 seconds at the beginning of battle and will not activate again for longer battles.
Her Burst Skill Sail Through the Tempest! is an interesting ability as she raises the Max HP of herself and allies without restoring any health. In theory, this ability should synergize with any Nikke who has passive effects that trigger at certain HP thresholds like Alice, Guillotine, and Scarlet. Since the skill does not heal, these Nikke can stay at the specific HP percentage and have their passive effects activated for the entirety of the fight.
Final Thoughts
Overall, Mast is a decent Supporter who works well with any Nikke that can take advantage of critical boost especially those who uses high fire rate weapons like Assault Rifles, Machine Guns and SMGs. Two recommended squad mates would be Snow White and Sugar as both have innate critical rate boost and can benefit from increased critical damage.
Her Burst Skill Sail Through the Tempest! also allows for characters that need to stay at specific HP percentages to perform better without worries of skill effect deactivations. However since her Skill 2 Pirate’s Sight, only lasting for 30 seconds at the start of battle, she is not recommended for long drawn-out battles especially Interception missions.
All in all, Mast is a decent character that can put up a good performance with powerful allies complementing her but unfortunately do not bring anything new to shift the established meta of the game. However, she is manufactured by Elysion, which has a sparse roster currently so she is still worth considering for Tribal Towers climb.
