What exactly are shiny monsters and why do they matter in Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince? Here is a breakdown of the shiny system and a guide on how to obtain these sparkling critters for your monster army.

While not officially named shiny monsters, they are rare monsters that sparkle brightly and can only be acquired through the monster synthesis system in the game. The probability of a synthesis resulting in shiny monsters is low, but they stand out from the normal spawns as they possess a huge difference in stats number.

After synthesis, shiny monsters will have an increase to the upper limit of a stat by 100, and the attributes boosted are randomly selected among the following:

• HP
• MP
• Attack Power
• Defense
• Agility
• Wisdom

Note that if you try to use monster synthesis on a shiny monster, the special stat will not be inherited and the results will be normal. So always be aware of which monsters you are using for synthesis.

How to Get Shiny 

Since the shiny monsters only obtain 1 random stat increase after each successful synthesis, this means you would need to repeatedly synthesize for a chance to get the desired result. One of the best ways to optimize your chance of a shiny monster is through save scumming and rerolling for your desired stats.

For reroll, here are steps to take:

1. Head to the Menu, select Others, then turn off the Autosave
2. Save your game first
3. Take note of the stats of which monster you want to make shiny by leveling it to Level 10 and note down the numbers
4. Reload save
5. Initiate synthesis to see the result
6. If it is a shiny monster, level up to the same level then compare the stats
7. Keep if it is the stat you are looking for, otherwise, reload save, and repeat for the desired result
