Currently, there is no English version or language support for Code Geass: Genesic Re;Code as the game is region-locked in Japan. However, it is possible to download and play the game for those living overseas, which we will share in this step-by-step guide.
Typically, most mobile gamers who want to play a region-locked game will download the game on TapTap, QooApp or download the .apk file on sites like APKPure. These methods do not work with Code Geass Genesic Re;Code as Google Play checks for the download source.
The only way to get the game is to download it via Google Play Store Japan. As such, the following method only works for Android devices (sorry Apple fans!).
Here are the steps, which are confirmed to work:
Step 1 Download and install EasyOvpn and OpenVPNConnect. Any VPN should work, but we recommend this as there are no ads or payments required.
Step 2 Run EasyOvpn and select any Japanese VPN.
Step 3 You’ll be redirected to OpenVPNConnect. Tap on “OK” when asked to import profile.
Step 4 Connect to the IP and make a Gmail account. Since you’re connected to a Japanese IP, Google will automatically see it as a Japanese account. To make a Gmail account on your phone, open Google, tap on the account icon on the top right of your screen, tap on the arrow, then tap on “Add another account”. Follow the process of making a Gmail account.
Note: You can use your phone number, even if it’s not a Japanese number. Be warned that if you already synced too many Gmail accounts to the same number in the past, Google will not allow the number to be used. In this case, you’ll have to use another number.
Step 5 Open Google Play Store and switch to the Japanese Gmail account. Download and install Code Geass Genesic Re;Code.
Step 6 Once the game is installed, you can play the game normally. You can choose to turn off VPN before downloading the patch files. Playing the game does not require a VPN connection.
While we wait and pray for an official English release of Code Geass: Genesic Re;Code, we hope that you’ll enjoy playing the Japanese version of the game in the meantime.
