Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest entry in Capcom’s beloved action RPG franchise, brings a fresh hunting experience with new monsters, environments, and gameplay mechanics. As players venture into this evolved world, mastering the fundamentals becomes crucial for survival against increasingly formidable threats.
Whether you’re a newcomer to the series or a veteran hunter looking to improve your skills, these nine essential tips will help you overcome challenges in Monster Hunter Wilds and maximize your effectiveness in the field. From combat techniques to resource management, these strategies will give you the edge you need to tackle even the most formidable monsters.
1. During combat, you can fire your equipped slinger ammo by pressing L2 and L3 (on PS) or LT and LS (on Xbox), which is especially useful when you’ve loaded Flashbombs to ground flying enemies without sheathing your weapon.

2. Always keep your slinger loaded with ammunition, as some monsters will bind you during fights, and shooting slinger ammo directly at their face is your escape method.

3. After defeating Nerscylla, prioritize crafting its weapon for your Palico to grant them sleep status effects, ensuring monsters fall asleep at least once per hunt.

4. When riding Seikret, press R2 (on PS) or RT (on Xbox) to make it stop running, as these mounts will continue sprinting indefinitely without manual intervention. You can also access your supplies through your Seikret with the left button on the D-pad instead of accessing them through the supply chest.

5. You can collect materials easier with the slinger. Collect Sleep Herbs, Parashrooms, Webs, and Ivy whenever possible, as these materials are essential for crafting tranq bombs needed for monster captures, which reduce quest failure risk. You’ll know when a monster can be captured when the monster will display a skull icon on the minimap.

6. During a mount, focus on inflicting two wounds, one in an easily accessible area and another on a difficult-to-reach spot, then use your weapon on the hard to reach wound to break it and have a spot to use your focus attack on. And before the monster tries to shake you off, to maximize damage potential try to position yourself at the head of the monster, sometimes they will crash into things and damage themselves.

7. You can use whetstones and potions while riding Seikret, summon and enjoy reduced damage while riding compared to being on foot.

8. If you’re knocked down by a monster and there is another attack incoming, don’t press any buttons to delay waking up, as you’re invulnerable while lying on the ground. Combine this with calling for your Seikret and you have a way to get yourself out in a tough spot.

9. Begin encounters by sneaking behind monsters and pressing O (on PS) or B (on Xbox) powerful sneak attack that deals substantial free damage, especially effective when combined with the Ambush Skill for a temporary damage boost.

10. If you find yourself struggling during a hunt, fire an SOS Flare to get assistance from other hunters. Even if you’re playing offline, NPC hunters will respond to your flare, providing crucial support by diverting monster attention and using smart tactics like placing bombs near sleeping monsters’ heads.

11. Take advantage of the new Pop-Up Camp system by strategically placing your camps across each map. You can place up to 5 camps per map with varying safety levels: Safe (no monster access, zero destruction risk), Insecure (possible but unlikely monster encounters), and Dangerous (near monster territories with high destruction risk but faster access to targets). Choose wisely as repairing destroyed camps costs valuable points.

By incorporating these tips into your hunting strategy, you’ll find yourself becoming a more efficient and effective hunter in Monster Hunter Wilds. Remember that practice makes perfect, and each hunt is an opportunity to refine your skills further.
The world of Monster Hunter Wilds is vast and challenging, but with these techniques at your disposal, you’ll be well-equipped to face whatever creatures await you in the wilderness.
Happy hunting, and may your carves be plentiful!
