Summer is coming to a close in Alchemy Stars, and the last two characters are making their debut with the Endgame leg of the event! Both Smokey and Genevieve’s skillsets and Equipment have been revealed, so let’s see what they have.
SMOKEY
Smokey is a 6-star Fire Converter. Her Secondary Element is Water.
Her Active Skill has decently wide AOE damage, though with a slightly more restricted landing area compared to Sharona (Water) who has a similar damage range on her own (map wide) teleport. Smokey resets non-Red tiles in the area she lands in, for more team utility. It would certainly help to reach patches where your more standard Converters could be more useful too. We can probably expect her cooldown to be 2 or 3 turns, considering Sharona’s 3. Pepi is currently the only other Fire teleporter, who has a 0 turn cooldown but no other utility and typically extremely short range.
With her Equipment, Smokey can really bring the hurt with DEF-ignoring damage, though with diminishing returns. She should be able to get along well with Sinsa, who brings both DEF reduction and can also inch 1 tile forward if you want to land somewhere slightly out of reach. Charon also resets non-Red tiles and knocks back enemies in his way if you want to take advantage of Smokey’s AOE damage.
With regards to more accessible units, Leona would probably synergize best, being able to fire off more attacks for every Fire tile in her vicinity, besides fellow Converter Maggie. Due to diminishing returns, Istvan’s usefulness with Smokey in specific is also lower.
VERDICT: More Converter and Teleport options would certainly do no harm if you can get her. If you’ve been forced to rely on Pepi of all units without any other reliable Converters, you can consider gunning for her.
GENEVIEVE
Genevieve is a 5-star Fire Converter. Her Secondary Element is Thunder.
Once again in Smokey’s shadow, Genevieve’s teleport can be considered more restrictive. However, her potential to double-cast cannot be overlooked. You can consider Genevieve over Smokey in boss fights where there is commonly only 1 enemy. She also increases (presumably her own) Chain Combo range and damages all enemies in range, so she can have a lot more range.
She’s not all selfish either thanks to her Equipment skill: recovering HP based on damage dealt and increasing Chain Combo damage of her Fire allies on using her Active offensively. There’s potential for double healing outside of Aurora Time, encouraging an aggressive playstyle. Istvan would certainly be a no-brainer to pair with her, for the burst potential. However, some of this does hinge on her getting Pre-emptive on her Active, which may be locked behind her Breakthrough 5.
VERDICT: While you could consider her outshone by Smokey, players who like to play aggressively and have a Breakthrough 2 Istvan might want to get Genevieve for some flashy one-turn bursts. Unless you have the resources to get her Breakthroughs, though, don’t get her just solely on her potential.
Much appreciated to Alchemy Stars for revealing the Equipment skills for these Endgame releases, it does help trying to figure out if you wish to invest or not. Of course, if you like these spicy ladies, then feel free to roll for them regardless.
