Enter the whimsical fantasy world of Esperia in AFK Journey, the recently released new mobile RPG by FARLIGHT, and here we prepared a tier list ranking the best characters in terms of performance.
Do note that AFK Journey places emphasis on team building so characters may perform differently depending on the current composition and scenario. Keep in mind that most characters rely on having good synergy with allies to unlock their potential, especially when it comes to factions.
For this tier list, we have categorized characters into their roles and broken them down into various rankings.
Character Role(s):
- DPS – Characters who primarily focus on dealing damage to enemies.
- Specialist – Characters with a very specific kit or may fit into multiple roles.
- Support – Characters who provide the team with various utilities, such as buffs, debuffs, crowd control, or simply keep the team alive with heals.
- Tank – These are the characters who primarily focus on keeping the team alive by being the center of attention, drawing aggro away from their team to themselves.
Rating(s):
- S Tier – The folks who excel at fulfilling their role in most scenarios, from story to endgame.
- A Tier – Still an excellent batch of characters, only falling slightly behind the S-tier units.
- B Tier – Worth the investment and can be solid in certain teams or circumstances. Some can even surpass higher tiers in terms of performance with enough investments.
- C Tier – Situational.
- D Tier – Very situational. Not recommended unless under a specific scenario or if you love the character.
Also, take note that the tier list is based on early impressions and based on patch 1.1.13, so a character’s placement and strength may differ in the future when more content drops.
S | |
DPS | |
Cecia | Cecia here casually making fights into 6 vs. 5 with her summons. |
Florabelle | Florabelle, sister of Cecia. Both summoners and both perform very well. Way too well. |
Odie | May not look like it, but Odie is easily one of the best DPS in the game thanks to the poison. |
Vala | A unique DPS with two forms and can take down enemy backline with her rifle. |
Specialist | |
Carolina | Queen of debuff and CC, but can be investment-heavy. Recommended with Eironn for stupid combo wombo. |
Support | |
Hewynn | Best healer in the game, hands down. |
Koko | Amazing support who can help reduce the damage her allies take. |
Reinier | Can switch positions between ally and enemy, disrupting formation. Easily one of the strongest support. |
Smokey & Meerky | Heal, buff, flexible. |
Tank | |
Thoran | Hands down the best tank. Not only is he tanky, but he also deals lots of damage, and can even cheat death. |
Antandra | Taunts, CC, and debuff enemies while protecting allies. Basically, smoking sexy awesome tank. |
Granny Dahnie | Great tank, only slightly weaker than Thoran. |
A | |
DPS | |
Arden | Arden excels when he has great support that contributes to CC, but without them, he is alright. |
Dionel | Dionel has the potential to unleash a stupidly high amount of damage, but as of now, he requires a very high investment. |
Bryon | Can kill enemies quickly, has a Falcon pet that applies debuff, and can even revive once per battle when he gets his EX weapon. |
Viperian | Huge AoE DPS that can wipe enemies and on top of that, drain energy as well. |
Specialist | |
Cassadee | AoE mage who can also buff her allies, shines well in Magical team. |
Igor | Igor is a menace. Jumps around like a maniac, chipping HP, while also cheating death. |
Parisa | DPS and buffer hybrid with high AoE damage potential. Relies on a good setup. |
Temesia | Temesia is unique as she fights mounted, ignoring walls and disrupting enemy formation as a menace. Flexible one. |
Shakir | Shakir does many things and does them well. Flexible bruiser DPS with great supportive abilities. |
Support | |
Damian | Flexible in the sense that he can heal, buff, and debuff enemies, but he may not feel as strong until his EX weapon is unlocked. |
Rowan | Like in AFK Arena… he is an energy battery. That is his purpose, very good at it too. |
B | |
DPS | |
Seth | Can feel very weak in the early game due to how squishy he is. With investment, however, expect stupidly high damage from him. |
Silvina | Similar to Seth, she is a very high investment DPS. Can deal stupid damage with investment, but can also die very quickly. |
Korin | Pretty good DPS thanks to constant CC and his ability to protect his weakest ally with a shield. |
Berial | Berial can be amazing if he gets to prey on isolated enemies. The problem is that he gets countered hard by enemies who love to stick together. The irony is, despite his single-target love, he is actually not that good against bosses. |
Marilee | Marilee is average at best… until she gets her EX weapon where her normal attacks start dealing True Damage. |
Rhys | Rhys has decent damage potential but suffers in pushing it higher as he tries to do both single target and AoE simultaneously. |
Specialist | |
Eironn | Requires his EX weapon, otherwise, he can feel awful to play. Can help set his team up for crazy combo wombo. |
Scarlita | A lot of her power is locked behind EX weapon and skill enhancement. Otherwise, she is both a powerful support and a DPS. |
Niru | Niru can heal and make his allies immortal. That said, he heavily relies on his EX weapon. |
Tank | |
Brutus | Brutus may seem powerful thanks to his temporary immortality, but most often or not, he just dies after the duration ends. |
C | |
DPS | |
Mirael | Some people just want to see the world burn. Mirael too, but sadly her damage be sad. |
Valen | Valen performs well early game, but performance drops like the waters of Niagara Falls. |
Specialist | |
Satrana | DPS buffer hybrid who has a rather decent kit, but the problem is… she’s melee so she is prompt to be slayed. |
Tank | |
Lucius | Decent tank but gets overshadowed very quickly. |
D | |
DPS | |
Atalanta | You know what is sad? Atalanta, despite her rarity, is outperformed hard by lower-rarity characters. |
Salazer | Salazar’s damage scales with enemy HP… but he still lacks the burst damage to finish them off. SMH~ |
Specialist | |
Kafra | Since he only heals allies that are close to him, he barely gets to shine unless you specifically build a melee-oriented team with him. |
Kruger | Outside of Dream Realm. Don’t bother. |
Walker | Comes with excellent CC but sacrifices a lot in damage. A very niche pick for countering certain enemies. |
Support | |
Fay | Super underwhelming heals and buffs compared to others in her role. |
Tank | |
Lumont | On paper, looks to be a good tank. In practice, he is just bad. |
Hopefully, this tier list can help you plan ahead efficiently on which characters to spend resources on or who to target when pulling. However, as with any gacha game, we recommend you invest in a character you like rather than blindly following meta.
If you are looking to expand your resources, we have also collected a list of gift codes available to redeem for the game, which you can find here.
