Mabinogi Mobile was announced back in July 2017, however we didn’t get much updates from the publisher, Nexon until G-Star 2018. During the Korea’s biggest game show, we finally got the chance to experience a demo for the mobile port of Mabinogi, so here is our Mabinogi Mobile hands-on impression!
Check out our demo gameplay below:
It is already known that Mabinogi Mobile will come in portrait mode, while if you still prefer a horizontal experience, it is playable in horizontal mode too. The scenes in the mobile version are pretty similar to its original version on PC, but in a more cartoonish art style.
The mobile game allows you to engage in economic activities, and the G-Star 2018 demo has showcased us a part of sheep shearing (to make yarns). You can pet cats – probably most of the tamed animals in the game too!
Your character will be able to run across the city freely using the left joystick, or you can use the auto-travel function to automatically rides a horse (to reach your destination faster). Interestingly, you can view your character’s icon travelling when you expands the mini-map as well.
You can customize your appearance and weapons easily even when you are auto-travelling across the map. Clicking into the outfit menu and there are plenty of weapons options including Short Blade, Sword and Bow that you can choose and change anytime you want (but not during battles). Of course, weapons and armors come in different skills and stats.
The buttons for the outfits menu, action (talk/stop/battle) and backpack are lining up at the bottom of the display if you are playing in portrait mode. During a battle, the buttons located at the bottom will switch into buttons for attack, weapon skills and block. The joystick for movement is located above these buttons. Meanwhile, the controls layout in its horizontal mode is something you will see on most mobile MMORPGs – left joystick for movement, the action or skill buttons on the right.
The demo shows a part of the story mode that requires you to complete quests. You will see other players around you in real-time, in which you can join them and fight together to complete a quest. In addition, you can communicate with other players using emojis, pre-set actions or by typing your own words. However, it appears that you can’t dodge an attack or sprint yet (in the demo).
We will probably see Mabinogi Mobile getting its launch in South Korea in 2019, while there is no news for a global release yet. Special thanks to Acer who gave us the chance to attend G-STAR 2018 live, you can visit their official site or Facebook for more updates and details about their product!
