A recent Sonic Fan Meeting held in Bangkok provided attendees with a unique opportunity to engage with the franchise’s creators and experience upcoming releases. The event, which primarily hosted members of the general public selected through a random draw, was structured into three distinct areas: a welcome zone, a demo space for Sonic x Shadow Generations, and a meet-and-greet activity section.
The gathering kicked off with appearances by Shun Nakamura, Producer, and Kazuyuki Hoshino, Creative Director, who shared their professional backgrounds with the audience. Fans then had the chance to connect with fellow enthusiasts, exchanging stories about their introduction to the Sonic the Hedgehog universe.
The organizers treated attendees to a series of promotional materials, including behind-the-scenes looks at SEGA’s workplaces, trailers for Sonic x Shadow Generations and the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog 3 movie (featuring Keanu Reeves as Shadow), and the recent Air Asia collaboration. A creative session allowed participants to design their own versions of Sonic and Shadow using Canva.
The event delved into Sonic’s history and Shadow’s character design evolution before moving to a Q&A session. Many questions centered around potential future activities in Thailand, such as game localizations and special events. Notably, when asked about a potential Sonic 2006 remake, Hoshino expressed interest in completing such a project before retirement, pending continued fan interest.
Norizaku Hirai, producer of Sonic Rumble, introduced the upcoming 32-player multiplayer game, describing it as the franchise’s first live service title suitable for both newcomers and long-time fans. The Sonic fan meeting concluded with a lucky draw, photo opportunities, and an autograph session. Attendees departed with exclusive merchandise, including limited edition Shadow Dark Beginning posters and Sonic t-shirts.
