Google has added characters like various Gundam, Eva 01 and Hello Kitty to their AR feature with Google Search, letting you bring the characters into the real world.
To use the feature you’ll need to have the Google App installed, then search for one of the characters in the search bar. Scrolling down will give you a View In 3D option, where if you’ve enabled access to your camera and phone storage, the app will project a 3D model of the aforementioned character.
What’s really cool is that Google got a vast selection of mecha, all of which can be viewed at “full-size”. Of course, this usually means just staring at a pair of giant 3D ankles, but it’ll definitely make for a lot of fun if you have the space for it. You can also use Google to view them at a smaller size, getting a human-sized Gundam instead.
Here’s a full list of the characters you can type into the Google search bar:
Ultraman | Gundam Odysseus |
Ultraman Zero | Kogimyun |
Ultraman Belial | Taiko Master |
Gomorra | Pac-Man |
Eva Unit 01 (Evangelion) | Hello Kitty |
Xi Gundam | Pompompurin |
Gundam Penelope | Little Twin Stars |
This feature wasn’t always used to promote fictional characters though. Google AR could also be used to look at 3d models of animals and other educational topics, making it a great educational tool, especially if you’re stuck inside.
