With the success of Godzilla Minus One skyrocketing in the box-office in late 2023, director Takashi Yamazaki has set down plans to direct another Godzilla film. This time, it will act out as a direct sequel to the first film.
As of now, no details of a structured plot nor a title have been confirmed. However, if the sequel is destined to follow the footsteps of Godzilla Minus One, then it will likely set in Japan.
The film was praised for its exemplary and high quality use of practical effects and CGI to create the devastating atmosphere Godzilla wreaked upon in Japan – all with a seamless budget of $15 million, which later earned a successful box-office sale of $55 million domestically and $115 million worldwide.

Godzilla Minus One marks its story in post-war Japan after homes and domesticated areas have been devasted and destroyed due to the effects of a terrible war. From there is where Godzilla emerges to embark on its rampage, featuring the best visual effects ever created on film in all of 2023. From Godzilla’s gnarly blue mouth beams to the catastrophe wrecked upon to civilians below.
This film marks the second of live-action Godzilla films of the Reiwa era, following Shin Godzilla in 2016.

Since its premiere two years ago, Godzilla Minus One has received nothing but positive reviews and feedback even from famous filmmakers and creators like Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan and even Hideo Kojima. Pacific Rim and Pans Labyrinth director Guillermo has hailed the film as the one of the top Godzilla films of all time.
With a background of being a visual effects supervisor, the work of Takashi Yamazaki on the predicted sequel will be much to look forward to in terms of visual effects as well as the heart-wrenching storyline it will convey.
