Godzilla Meets Digimon – Iconic Franchises Unite for 70th and 25th Milestone Celebrations

As Godzilla celebrates its 70th anniversary and Digimon marks 25 years, these iconic Japanese franchises have joined forces for a groundbreaking collaboration that bridges kaiju might with digital monsters.

The centerpiece of this partnership is the Digimon x Godzilla 70th Anniversary Edition Digital Monster Color, a special virtual pet device designed by renowned Digimon artist Kenji Watanabe. This collector’s item pays homage to Godzilla’s evolution from black-and-white beginnings to modern color cinema while maintaining classic Digimon gameplay with added kaiju elements.

Available in two versions—”WarGreymon: ‘G’ Infected Mode Classic Color” and “WarGreymon: ‘G’ Infected Mode Color”—the device features 34 playable characters with special Godzilla-influenced evolutions. Additionally, fan favorites include MetalGreymon: ‘G’ Infected Mode, SkullGreymon: ‘G’ Infected Mode, and Mugendramon: Type 3 Mode, all enhanced with Godzilla’s DNA characteristics.

The experience is further enriched with Godzilla’s theme song during battles and training sessions featuring anti-G weapons and M.O.G.E.R.A. The G-Cell Activation Value system adds strategic depth by determining evolution paths based on infection levels.

Beyond the virtual pet, X-Plus unveiled a MetalGreymon: “G” Erosion Mode vinyl figure at Digimon Con. Standing 16cm tall with detailed G-cell erosion features, including Godzilla-inspired dorsal fins, the figure is priced at 15,400 yen (approximately $103) with pre-orders opening March 21, 2025.
