Godfall, the upcoming “Looter-slasher” for the PS5 showed off more of its combat in detail today. At the State of Play livestream, Creative Director Keith Lee broke down how they plan to make the game a mix of player skill and loot-based progression.
The game will have five weapon classes, all with unique movesets. The list consists of:
- Long Sword
- Dual Blades
- Polearm
- Two-Handed Hammer
- Two-Handed Greatsword
On top of that, players also have access to a shield capable of impressive parries and devastating finishers.
Moves in this game are built by combining the game’s light and heavy attack options. Heavy attacks provide powerful blows to end your combos with, while the light attacks are faster. Each weapon also has a variety of unique skills to help players stay aggressive.
Dual Blades, for example, has a God of War-esque grab to pull enemies in and compensate for the Dual Blades’ lack of range compared to the other weapons. The longsword also has a timing-specific ability, where pressing the button at the right time rewards you with a shield uppercut.
In Godfall you play a Valorian Knight, a godlike warrior with access to Valorplates. As today’s livestream focused more on the weapon classes, they didn’t discuss much about the Valorplates
You’ll be exploring the world of Godfall across elemental-themed zones, dealing with groups of smaller enemies with aggressive combos. You’ll also be dealing with mid-bosses and proper bosses, who will need you to pay more attention to lookign for openings.
Keith Lee also says that Godfall would be making use of the PS5’s haptic feedback to deliver a better experience for the player on PlayStation’s blog.
Godfall will release in the holiday season of 2020 for PS5.
