Aniplex has announced a new anime series based on the multiplayer experience of the acclaimed video game Ghost of Tsushima. The series, which will adapt Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, is set to premiere exclusively on Crunchyroll in 2027.
The project brings together notable talents from the anime industry, with Takanobu Mizuno taking the director’s chair at animation studio Kamikaze Douga. Mizuno is known for his work on Star Wars: Visions, where he directed the standout episode “The Duel.” Acclaimed writer Gen Urobuchi will handle the story composition for the series.
The adaptation will be a collaborative effort between multiple Sony divisions, with Aniplex leading the production and Sony Music handling the musical aspects of the project. While casting details and additional staff members have not yet been revealed, the involvement of these prominent studios and creators suggests a significant commitment to the project.
The original Ghost of Tsushima game, which launched on PlayStation 4 in July 2020 before receiving PlayStation 5 and Windows ports in 2021 and 2024 respectively, tells the story of a samurai warrior during the 1274 Mongol invasion of Japan. In addition, its multiplayer component, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, was released in October 2020. The franchise continues to expand, with a sequel titled Ghost of Yōtei announced in September 2024 for a 2025 release.
Further details about the anime adaptation, including plot specifics and character information, are expected to be revealed as the project progresses toward its 2027 premiere date.
