The Chalk Prince and the Dragon will descend upon Genshin Impact! The version 1.2 update will be opening up a new area known as Dragonspine, a mountainous, snowy area. Puzzles, quests and mechanics are promised for Travelers to encounter.
A new environmental mechanic, Subzero Climate, will be encountered in Dragonspine. Characters will continuously accumulate “Sheer Cold”, represented by a bar above your HP. There will be certain conditions, including Snowstorms and swimming that can accelerate Sheer Cold accumulation. Characters will periodically lose HP once Sheer Cold hits a limit.
There will also be mechanisms that cast special effects on nearby monsters in Dragonspine. Those should probably be taken care of first! The treasure compass will not function in Dragonspine.
Special environmental objects, from bonfires, Ruin Braziers, Teleport Waypoints, Statues of The Seven, and even Warming Seelie can be used to prevent Sheer Cold accumulation. Completing the Dragonspine quest, “Ah, Fresh Meat!” will provide a Goulash recipe that will slightly reduce the rate of Sheer Cold accumulation for some time. Offerings to the Frostbearing Tree will raise its level, which will later provide the blueprints for a Warming Bottle at level 4, a consumable item that grants resistance to Sheer Cold.
There will also be Scarlet Quartz, a mysterious crystal found in Dragonspine. Collecting this will temporarily halt the accumulation of Sheer Cold and provide resistance to its freezing effects for a set duration. Scarlet Quartz will also enable you to break “peculiar ice” that is otherwise immune to weapons or pyro.
The Frostbearing Tree is an ancient tree that tends to the snowy mountain. Find crystalline Crimson Agate as you explore to offer to the tree. It will give a variety of rewards that include Acquaint Fate, Intertwined Fate, a wind glider, as well as Gadget blueprints.
The offering rewards include:
- Level 1: Acquaint Fate, Mystic Enhancement Ore, Mora
- Level 2: Acquaint Fate, Mystic Enhancement Ore, Mora
- Level 3: Hero’s Wit, Mystic Enhancement Ore, Mora
- Level 4: Diagram: Warming Bottle, Mystic Enhancement Ore, Mora
- Level 5: Acquaint Fate, Mystic Enhancement Ore, Mora
- Level 6: Intertwined Fate, Mystic Enhancement Ore, Mora
- Level 7: Hero’s Wit, Mystic Enhancement Ore, Mora

- Level 10: Diagram: Frostbearer Catalyst, Mystic Enhancement Ore, Mora

Crimson Wish quests will unlock when the Frostbearing Tree reaches level 8, with five new Crimson Wish quests becoming available every Monday and Friday. Dragonspine Crimson Agate is limited, so these quests can be completed to receive more. Crimson Wish will not refresh once the tree is raised to its max level.
The Peak of Vindagnyr is a new Domain that will unlock on completing the quest, “In the Mountains”. The Blizzard Strayer and Heart of Depth set will be available here. Characters will continuously accumulate Sheer Cold, with platforms intermittently switching between Subzero – accelerate Sheer Cold accumulation – and Warm – diminishes Sheer Cold.
Completing The Chalk Prince and the Dragon storyline will grant the event-exclusive sword, Festering Desire. Completing specified quests during the event period will unlock new effects for Festering Desire, and the character that equips the cursed sword will receive some special buffs while exploring the Dragonspine area.
After unlocking the Dragonspine area, Travelers do not need to consume Original Resin to participate in the event. Rewards will be available for exchange via the Event Shop.
That’s all for the preview for The Chalk Prince and the Dragon event for Genshin Impact! Albedo will be first up for the Wish banner, so good luck to all.
