miHoYo have elaborated more on the hangout system, their new dating sim type events coming in the next title update for Genshin Impact.
In a tweet, they explained some of the requirements you’d need for these quests, including the minimum level you’d need to date your favorite characters, as well as how the mechanic would work.
For starters, not every character will be dateable. For now, the only characters you can engage in dating sim shenanigans with in the Genshin Impact update are Noelle, Barbara, Bennet and and Chongyun.
To begin the quest you’d need to be at least Adventure Rank 26, and need at least 2 story keys to begin the Hangout events. As the story plays out, you’ll need to keep the heartbeat meter up, and failing to do so will end the hangout quest.
It’s not a binary fail-or-win, though. According to miHoYo your decisions will have different consequences, with different details of the story quests based on your decisions. The game will let you view these via a flowchart.
One of the biggest reveals is that these quests are replayable, and you can use the aforementioned flowchart to jump to different parts of the quest and decide where you want to go next. In the examples they showed, there were a total of five different endings, with rewards for unlocking all five. You’ll even get special Hangout Memories, showing art of your character interacting with the Hangout characters, with each one corresponding to a different ending.
The Hangout system is one of the new features coming to the 1.4 update for Genshin Impact, alongside the Windblume Festival and the return of Venti, the first limited banner in the game. The update drops on the 15th of March.
It’s not currently known if the Hangout System will be tied to the Windblume Festival, or if it would still be in the game after the event is over, leaving room for future dates with other characters.
