It’s been an open secret that Gardevoir would be in the game- she was in the various mobile Betas for Pokemon Unite, before mysteriously vanishing from the launch roster only to be replaced by Wigglytuff. The Pokemon was part of three separate Pokemon announced to come to the game after its launch, alongside Blastoise and one more mystery Pokemon.
A Beloved Gen 3 Mascot
The Pokemon first debuted in Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire, and is the final evolution of the elusive Ralts, who would teleport away if you didn’t catch it on the first turn. Since then it’s become one of the mascot Pokemon of the third generation, even appearing in games like Pokken Tournament as a playable character.
The Pokemon would later have prominence in Pokemon X and Y, as the signature Pokemon of that region’s champion, Diona.
Despite largely being considered femme-presenting, Gardevoir aren’t one of the monosex Pokemon, being found both as Male and Female. The Sinnoh games would later add Gallade, which could only be evolved from Male Kirlia.
