To bring the famous gaming convention to the Southeast Asia region, gamescom’s is partnering with GameStart, Koelnmesse Singapore and the Singapore Tourism Board.
gamescom asia is the first Asian version of the gamescom gaming convention and is expected to have a business area, entertainment area, and conference area. The event will be broken down to a two-day part for gaming industry conferences and a three-day exhibition part. Most of the exhibition of games, gaming workshops, technology showcases, and more, will be revealed during the exhibition days.
The reason for this major move is the huge market potential in the Asia and Southeast Asia regions. According to Newzoo, Southeast Asia alone is expected to generate USD 4.6 billion in 2019. With gamescom, stakeholders in the gaming industry will have a solid platform to reach the region’s lucrative gaming market.
For those who are not aware, gamescom is one of the world’s largest gaming event, with 370,000 visitors attending last year. It was first held almost 9 years ago in August 2009 in Cologne, Germany. On the other hand, GameStart’s is Southeast Asia’s number one gaming convention and it started in 2014. GameStart has plenty of experience in running a gaming convention in Singapore. In fact, this year’s GameStart 2019 during 12-13 October 2019 will be the sixth year the event is returning.
We were able to get in touch with Elicia Lee, Founder of GameStart, for a comment and she had this to say:
GameStart was created not just to support the various gaming and pop culture communities here, but also set out to put Singapore and SEA on the global map for gaming. Thanks to everyone who has supported and been a part of our journey, we believe partnering with Gamescom Asia will allow us to combine our resources and networks to achieve bigger and better things for the industry here together. Looking forward to the future!
