We got to try out DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing ahead of its release at the Indie Wavemakers booth during gamescom asia 2023.
DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing is just what you’d expect from your average kart game, but with Dreamworks characters.
However, the map design is unique, with additions such as a trampoline lane which grants a boost or power to the player if they successfully jump through a hoop, serving as a mini-game of sorts to differentiate itself from other games in the genre, and adding a bit of flare to the gameplay experience.
The main appeal of DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing for us was the roster. Even if you haven’t watched the movies, the game is sure to be popular with those who want to drive as these cornerstones of internet culture, as the meme-worthy roster contains characters such as Shrek, Po, and Megamind. There are also an array of customisable karts that players can design.
Being a kart game, the focus is on drifting and boosting. Thankfully, it is really easy to learn and master, so its perfect for casual players. The game also supports split screen, supporting up to 4 players at a time.
We really enjoyed our time with the game, as it was really fun and exciting and makes for a great party game even if you detach it from the DreamWorks IPs.
The game is releasing on November 4th, 2023 and will be available on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox.
