It’s no secret that a lot of games are best known by their communities. When you say things like “The Genshin Community” or “The League Of Legends” community, you can probably think of a few shared ideas that unify the group as a whole. While most of these groups will tend to be focused on one game, there’s one oddity that largely defies this rule- the fighting game community, also known as the FGC.
One of the FGC’s defining traits is that they operate as a genre whole, rather than any individual game. Sure, there are Street Fighter fans and there are Guilty Gear games, but the FGC’s greatest strength is that they will tend to be fans of the genre overall.
As a card-carrying member of the FGC, I figured today we’d take a look at how exactly this community works and how they helped Street Fighter 6 go on to have the best launch a Street Fighter series has ever had.
