Honkai Star Rail launched last week, the latest from miHoYo– a rising star of game developers following the success of both Honkai Impact 3rd and Genshin Impact.
At first glance, it’s easy to assume that Honkai Star Rail is some bold new path for the developer but more seasoned HoYo fans might notice that Star Rail is actually moreso the culmination of development lessons learned from their various 3D lessons- addressing many complaints found in previous titles.
In that sense it’s a lot like FromSoftware’s Elden Ring- it’s a game very clearly built upon the shoulders of its predecessors, and any success it may have can’t be looked at in a vacuum as a result.
