Video games getting delayed feels like an industry norm at the moment, with delay announcements popping out like mushrooms.
In theory, the idea of delaying the game until it’s at its best is a sound one. There’s no point in putting something out if it’s not ready and many games have been ruined from releasing before they were ready. Just look at Cyberpunk 2077. Yet, at the same time, how can long can you really ask people to wait for delayed games before they start wondering just why exactly is it taking so long?
Likewise, many of these games get announced while they are still in the concept phase. Such early releases can make developing and marketing the game difficult. Video game development and hard plans will often change during development.
This is all partially exacerbated by the internet and social media. Before the internet, people would find out about new games from magazines, TV ads, or when they just appeared in stores. Nowadays, everyone knows when a game is announced, and as the months pile on, they’ll know how long it’s taking.
