Long before video games became as mainstream as they are today, censorship has always been prevalent in almost every society in one way or another. If you’ve watched TV shows like American Idol, chances are, you’ll be pretty accustomed to the bleep sound effect or the American Idol logo appearing to magically block out questionable hand gestures.
While bleeps are a lot more uncommon in games, redesigns are not. Just like movies, it’s common for video games to alter specific parts of it, especially when released in various parts of the world. From removing blood and gore to adding more clothes to the scantily clad, censorship and video games are two terms that are frequently associated with each other, typically to the dismay of the playerbase.
