Some footage for the fighting game spin off of Honor of Kings, known as Codename Dawn Break, has been released, intercut with commentary from players in the 2 and a half minute clip. You can check it out below:
The title has been floating around for some time now, with concept art surfacing in 2020. Now, with this footage, we can really see how Codename Dawn Break would work: namely, pretty similar to Nintendo’s Super Smash Brothers series. The visuals, the apparent mechanics and stage layout are quite on the nose, using characters from Honor of Kings instead. It’s supposedly meant to be available worldwide on multiple platforms, though there’s yet to be a release date.
Much like Tencent’s branching out with Honor of Kings World, we’ll have to see if its international release will also mean a dub name change, namely, as Arena of Valor. From the footage provided, we should be able to safely assume it will definitely be on mobile. It will apparently have better netcode, the trend with rollback netcode being finally implemented in older titles as well.
Some commenters do seem to wonder if the visual style would see some form of cease and desist, which players might want to take note of. In any case, until anything massive happens, fans have something else to look forward to.
