The year 2016 has seen many mobile games released. Some were great and some were just not our cup of tea. The Game Awards held every year nominates the top games of the year from any playforms and choose one game to win the Best Game of the Year award. In the mobile/handheld industry however, there are 5 games nominated for Best Mobile Game of the Year as you can see below.
Best Mobile / Handheld
- Clash Royale (Supercell)
- Fire Emblem Fates (Intelligent Systems / Nintendo)
- Monster Hunter Generations (Capcom)
- Pokemon Go (Niantic)
- Severed (Drinkbox Studios)
Clash Royale has seen better days. There were even competitive game plays and appeared in the Mobile E-sports arena. Whereas for Fire Emblem Fates, Monster Hunter Generations and Severed are Handheld games for the Nintendo 3DS that are targeted for a specific community. These games were hyped by many different communities and they still are. However the Best Mobile Game award went to Pokemon Go by Niantic.
We can see why Pokemon Go snagged the Best Mobile Game award from those nominated games. Based on an online statistics they had 500 million downloads and 20 million daily regular players. Players spend an average of 45 minutes daily playing the game. Their total revenue as of August has reached $268 million. That’s a lot of greens.
Pokemon Go did not just won Best Mobile Game of the year but they also won Best Family Game of the year. The game is built not just for fun but it encourages people to lead a healthy lifestyle. And with many updates to come in the future, Niantic is up to the challenge to surprise Pokemon fans and keep the game interesting for a long run.
So CONGRATULATIONS to Niantic and THANK YOU for bringing us Pokemon Go!
