South Korea-based developer Meerkat Games will be launching Royal Crown, a game it dubs a survival MOBA to the mobile platforms and Steam. The game brings total 100 players to duke it out on a large battlefield.
In the fierce competition to outlast the other, players will need to come up with the optimal strategy in upgrading their heroes and adapting to the surrounding environment. The unique fantasy setting and its pastel colour palette certainly makes it stand out from similar games. Although the game is a MOBA at heart, there are some RPG elements implemented here as well, such as hunting for monsters with friends and crafting gear and weapons from loot.
The opening of each round will be very familiar to those that have played survival battle royale games such as Fortnite, as players will be randomly dropped in the map. With several classes to play, you will need to take into account what is best suited for the situation at hand. When playing in teams, you will need to have a good mix of offensive and defensive classes, but if you are on your own, the perhaps something with better survivability would be preferred.
The mix of genres certainly makes these types of games more interesting than if they were on their own but we will have to see how it actually plays with a population of users, since balance might be an issue, given the assortment of classes that you can actually play. Furthermore, combat does not seem very intuitive or have any depth to it at the time being, although that might change later on as well. If you are fan of battle royale type games, you will want to keep Royal Crown on your radar. We would direct you to the developer’s page for more information, but as of publishing, the site is down at the moment.
