Ahead of its 20th anniversary on 12 July 2021, a new project for Fullmetal Alchemist will be revealed. Said Fullmetal Alchemist project will be featured on the cover of the next Shounen Gangan issue, right on the 20th anniversary date since its first publication in the magazine. A new illustration will also be included as a bonus clear file. Additionally, there will also be new information regarding Hiromu Arakawa, the series’ mangaka, as mentioned by Manga Mogura.
Considering the existence of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, the new project is unlikely to be a new anime adaptation, granted it did end in 2010. The live-action movie was released in 2017 in comparison. Due to the growing popularity of successful franchises getting mobile game adaptations, it wouldn’t be surprising that FMA finally gets this treatment, after many collaborations with other properties. The series hasn’t made that much headway in console games either.
As for Hiromu Arakawa herself, her manga adaptation of The Heroic Legend of Arslan novels is still on-going, so who could reasonably speculate what information would be released then?
Whatever the case, 20 years is a long time for a series to remain highly regarded in popular culture, so fans can look forward to next month to see what’s up.
