Epic Games has launched their Epic Games Store recently with a limited library of games for the time being. The store’s launch can be seen as a viable competitor to Valve’s Steam. Now, it seems that Epic Games is upping the ante by giving out free games.
Epic Games announced that starting from the 14th of December, Epic Games Store will give away a game for free once every two weeks. The promotion will last throughout 2019. If the giveaway lasts all the way to the end of 2019, Epic Games will have given away 25 games for free to all account holders.
The giveaway will start with Subnautica, an underwater survival game. Currently, the game costs RM44 on Steam. All things considered, Epic Games picked something good to start off. Subnautica will be available for free on the Store from December 14th until the 27th. Following that, Epic Games will make the extremely difficult platformer, Super Meat Boy, free from December 28th until January 10th.
According to Epic Games, the decision to fund these free releases came from wanting to provide users something new to come back and check out. Considering that Epic Games still have a small library, providing free releases is one way to keep users coming back for more. At the moment, there are no news whether the Epic Games Store will release AAA titles for free. However, this will unlikely happen.
Similar to Steam, users will require an Epic Games account to use the Epic Games Store. You can also download the client on your desktop for easier access. For more information, you can visit the Epic Games site or the store itself.
